FORT WORTH

 Collaborative Effort at the Playground

One blustery day during our family reunion at Fort Worth, my youngest granddaughter, three-year-old Shila, asked me to watch her climb up a fairly steep slide in a nearby park. Ever vigilant, I stayed right behind her, encouraging her as she valiantly struggled to reach the top. Whenever she began to slide back, I pushed her body forward. Even though most of the time, our joint efforts failed and she slipped back to the bottom, Shila wouldn’t give up. For at least 30 minutes, she precariously launched herself upward on that slide. I marveled at her incredible determination.

Soon her six-year old cousin Zachary, one of my grandsons, joined in. He began to straddle the middle of the slide to make a tunnel for Shila to maneuver through as she ascended and descended. She was delighted; he rooted for her; I was proud of both of them. Such coordinated choreography!
