โFederal officials informed states that beneficiaries of the Supplemental Nutrition.
Assistance Program (SNAP) will not receive any new money to help pay for food until funding is restored. As long as the federal shutdown continues, millions of older adults face uncertainty about when they will receive food benefits.

An honest question - are there really people on SNAP benefits for the purchase of their food that cannot go even 1-week without allotment? I really want to know - seems that people do stock their pantry with a good many staple, donโt they? Or are SNAP benefits just cash, carry and eat with no build up in the pantry?

Gail @GailL1 , there is NO cash involved.
It is put on a Debit Card EVERY month.
Some senior citizens in MY AREA of VIRGINIA "depend" on this help to be able to eat.
Gail, everyone has to do things THEIR WAY & I "respect" this.
In my "very humble" opinion, yes - there is FRAUD involved as all things "electronic" these days.
An example is folks buying folks food using their SNAP Debit Card in exchange for "illegal" drugs.
The OTHER folks do need this help.
Some people are NOT able to load up a pantry.
Take care,
Nicole!
Cash is loaded on the EBT card - I am not talking about fraud or even how everybody does it - I am just asking a question about whether these monthly benefits are use to buy those staples like rice, beans, pasta, flour, etc. and these remain in their pantry for use - building up a stock pile, so to speak, to carry then over for at least a week.
That is all that I am asking.
Edited to add: if they have enough staples then what other type food things do they need and i will concentrate any food panty contributions with those things in mind.
[10/31/25] Here in VIRGINIA state will be "covering" SNAP.
Instead of a MONTHLY amount, it will be distributed "weekly".
