28,000 Points for $5 Walmart Card - Members Only

You have got to be kidding me!  They had an Amazon $5 card on 1/31/24 for 25,000 points.  Now that is what I call inflation at its best!

I seem to always miss these opportunities - can someone tell me when they go on sale generally?Like once a week and a certain time of the day only? Thanks! i just joined AARP and would appreciate the feedback.

@Sagitta1213   Be sure you are subscribed to the thread in the Redemption section, "Latest Available Points Only".   You will receive notifications for new posts when something new appears.  That is how I found out about the Amazon one yesterday.   Only down side is that you get an email every time anyone posts and a lot of the posts are conversation rather than something new.   But it's still appreciated when others give us the heads up.

There is really no set time.  I reported the one for Walmart at 11:08 a.m. when I saw it.  I don't know how long it had been on the site before that.  There are some real eagle eyes out there that report them as soon as they see them.

At least those two are useful gift cards.

I would not mind a Target as well, even under those conditions.

At 28,000 points, which, by the way, is not necessarily the end of the point requirement climb, you need to max out your points 4 days in a row (ok, 3.96 or whatever, but who's counting.

There are more than I can probably imagine of online survey type situations with more practical requirements than what AARP presents.  One example is a company I earn a 5 dollar GC from WalMart or Amazon every 3 days (admittedly, probably put 2-2.5 hours a day into it) so if anyone is fed up enough with this program and needs a push toward other type venues, drop me a note and I will offer options.  28,000.  Almost as expensive as a share of Nividia, for cryin out loud.

@hatfield6549  I agree, inflation at its finest!   I haven't noticed any $10 "points only" GC's being offered this month,  and wonder if the $10 GC's have been replaced with these outrageous $5 GC's that cost an exorbitant amount of points.

@JoLo49   I've wondered the same thing.  I need to ask myself the tough question:  Is this worth my time?  The obvious answer is no.   But here I've redeemed, last month and this month, these measly $5 cards because the alternative is nothing.    What a far cry from the beginning of this program when staying up late one night a month yielded $60 in cards.   Now it's $15 for a lot of time.  So many participants have been recruited that the rewards are practically nil.

Hi @HokiePoq  I agree, the rewards program has changed, and not for the better.  The perks have diminished, especially after the flood gates were opened to allow anyone over 18 years to join the program.  I remember the days when $20 to $25 gift cards were available for point redemption and then were replaced with the $10 gift cards.  Now it appears the $10 gift cards are being replaced with the $5 gift cards.  I will still continue to do the activities, but not for the points.  I enjoy the mahjoong and word wipe games,  and the Denise Austin exercise videos are a great complement to my personal training at the gym.

@HokiePoq @JoLo49

I can’t say if it’s AARP or Merkle but the suggestion has been made in this forum before that one or the other is trying their best to close down this rewards program and what better way than to make participation a waste of time. This currant program is nothing like we were promised in the beginning. It appears that AARP’s tactic of let’s sign up as many folks regardless of age has shot themselves in the foot, because the non-members aren’t going to stick around long for measly $5 gift cards either and the best part AARP won’t need the services of Merkle/HelloWorld. Yea, yippee 🤪🤣😜😜🥴
