So many people forget there are many ways to volunteer...even if you are bedridden.  There are lots of organizations (veterans, church, schools, etc.) that always need help.  Just making a phone call can help an organization with a meeting reminder or other phone tree that will keep someone engaged and provide a socialization contact.  As a volunteer, you set your position and hours based on your abilities and schedule. You can be as involved as you are able. Organizations can always use someone to make phone calls or send an email or text message. Possibilities are endless!

I have a friend that has been bedridden for several years but is still a part of a National Veterans Organization at the national level. She's always very involved and has even participated in setting up events for National Conventions.

She says socialization helps older adults maintain their language skills and boost their physical and mental well-being.
