Life is what happens when you have other plans. It pays to regularly re-evaluate your priorities (they change, and so should your list). Making good habits early makes it easier to to do them later and consistently. But, sometimes some habits never get re-evaluated or updated. Mindfulness helps prevent habits from becoming "out sight, out of mind".
If you spend some time thinking/predicting the future somewhat, it helps you be aware of some unpredictable events so that you won't be surprised by them even if you don't know what to do about them, and prepare you for tomorrow, and most of all, it reminds you of the importance of being resilient (you know, think before you act). Heaven forbid that you make Mindfulness such a habit that it becomes "out of sight, out of mind", and you become not as mindful as life requires. That's how self-deception takes root, and stereotypes become "reality".
