The Hartford Homeowners Insurance Please help!

I signed up with The Hartford AARP because of AARP.  I have auto and homeowners.  Unfortunately, the condo I rent in Michigan has had more than one water damage since I've had the Hartford Renter's insurance.  The Hartford has only given me the run around.  The home has been deemed uninhabitable and The Hartford has failed to reimburse one dollar.  I amount almost $20,000.00 staying at hotels and other additional living expenses and the Hartford has not paid anything.  I've reached out to AARP in the past to no avail.

Please help - this is a scam!

Hi @DanaM731246 ,

We’re very sorry to hear about your experience. While The Hartford provides the insurance coverage, AARP partners with them to offer member benefits. For claims issues, the best next step is to contact The Hartford’s claims department directly at 1‑877‑805‑9918. If you’ve already done that and still need assistance, please reach out to AARP Member Services at 1‑888‑687‑2277 so we can review your situation and help escalate if needed. -AARP Darryl

YOUR POST ENTITLED:  The Hartford Homeowners Insurance Please help!

@DanaM731246

Some points for you - with some pertinent links that you should read.

1.  If you rent, you do not have “homeowners” insurance so perhaps you have AARP Hartford Renters Insurance?

AARP Hartford Renters Insurance

2.  Renter’s Insurance will cover your belongings within the structure for specific losses but not the actual structure.

Learning About Renter’s Insurance - Hartford

from the link ~

“The Hartford offers renters insurance coverages to help cover the cost to repair or replace your things if they’re damaged and offers liability protection if someone is injured at your home.”

It also says that they can work with the renter to customize their policy in case there is some unique things needing protection that are outside of the normal policy coverage.

It’s important to know what kind of damage your renters insurance policy covers. Your policy will tell you what’s excluded from coverage. If you need additional coverage, you can get a special personal property coverage endorsement. This can increase your premium, but it extends your protection to include losses not typically covered in a standard renters insurance policy.”

3.  IF the water damage was caused by the flooding of water caused by weather ~ unless you buy a specific separate flood insurance policy.

What’s Not Covered by Renters Insurance?

Your renters insurance doesn’t cover flood damage. To protect your belongings from this type of damage, you’ll need to buy a separate flood insurance policy.***

It’s also important to remember that while your renters insurance doesn’t cover flooding caused by weather, it does cover water damage from a leak in your rental or a connecting unit.

4.  How living expenses are covered is also described on the linked page

Living Expenses
If a covered loss prevents you from living in your rental, your insurance policy can help cover your living expenses, such as hotel fees or food costs. Your renters insurance covers these expenses up to an additional 30% of your personal property coverage.

This particular page on Renter’s Insurance has a lot of good info that might answer some of your questions.

You have not given many details here so that ‘s all I have as just a knowledgeable ole lady reading post here and trying to help.

Read your policy - that’s where all the details of coverage will be -

This is a report done by a news organizations that reviews coverages of major insurers for certain types - it seems to say the same thing but thought I would list it in case there is some info not shown before that will help you.

Good Luck - hopefully I have helped you a little.
