AARP Discount with AVIS - Not Good
I went through the AARP discount page to try and rent a Car in Seattle WA for two weeks. The rate with the required fees was $100 more than just renting as a guest at the AVIS site. So where is the 30% discount. Both prepaid and not prepaid.
I got the exact same car and necessities (ex. unlimited Mileage) for a third less with Alamo.
AARP Benefit? First time I tried to use an AARP benefit. Not encouraging.

Not only do you not get a discount with Avis, but hear this.
i used the Avis app to book a vehicle, putting in my preferred number I’ve had forever. I’m a good Avis business and private customer. Then plugged in the aarp discount code in field. No savings.
When I got to the preferred counter at the Buffalo airport the rude representative said I only had a General and not preferred reservation so he could not help me because so had “booked through AARP”, which was ridiculous since I booked it directly on the Avis app and I only plugged in a discount code. The General line had 60 people and a 90 minute wait. While waiting I called the 1-800 Avis line and after 15 minutes of arguing with someone why spoke poor English “modified” the reservation I had already booked. I told her this was age discrimination for penalizing me for what, trying to get a discount I never got anyway?
So so thought.
Thus is a joke. AARP is a liability, not a benefit.

I actually followed through with what I thought was an AARP discount with Budget. They hook you with a car for $206 as an AARP member and it wasn't until I completed the transaction that I saw they charged me $326 after taxes are included. And I'd have to pay $50 to cancel. So I called my credit card and disputed the charge.
