Need Help With Respite Care for a Loved One

My family is struggling to find short-term respite care for a loved one, and it’s been emotionally exhausting. We want care that’s safe, kind, and trustworthy, but it’s hard to know where to turn or what to look for. I’d really appreciate your suggestions or advice

Are they on Medicare?  Medicaid ? Part A Hospice to be specific. 

In home respite or offsite or something like daycare?

 I care for my husband, who is 98 years old. He is lucid and still drives.  He uses a walker because of balance issues. He is having problems with swallowing, so his food has to be pasty or liquid. I feel I am on call 24/7.  I do all the housework, the cooking that does not taste good, all the appointments, etc.  He has Medicare and UnitedHealthcare as insurance.  I would like help to find a house cleaner, perhaps every 2 weeks. I do not know how to go about finding a trustworthy person, and I have no idea how much this kind of work would cost in my area.  I would also like to find a company that would deliver frozen dinners for 3 days a week that he could eat and enjoy it.

I have heard of theft with people cleaning houses and I am afraid, as I am also a senior.

If you have any ideas, I would appreciate them.  Thank you for your time and attention.

[5/31/26] Hi Eliana @ek8723 , do you have an Office Of Aging for your area? Mine here in Virginia has ALOT of "resources" that may help you. Also, maybe contact Social Services for your area. What about a Senior Center near you. They may be of some help. Sometimes local Churches have resources. Yes, as we AGE, if there is NO "family" available, "trusting" others is an area to be VERY CAREFUL with. Good luck, Nicole!
