Earn points during unscheduled maintenance

 - We are still working hard to earn more points during this time, it has been more than 2 weeks now and I am not sure when the maintenance will be completed, should I continue to earn points? The number of tasks I have done is gradually running out and my score is quite high, I am gradually feeling impatient because I keep earning points without bringing any benefits, I do not know how you feel? Are you still persistent in earning points every day or have you paused and waited for the maintenance to finish to continue earning points?

I just take one quiz or watch one video each day, just in case the points will be worth anything, but I'm not hopeful.

I find it difficult to find the quizzes/videos to get points during “Maintenance”. The points we had prior shouldn’t expire during their downtime. I’m getting rather tired of the limited benefits from the points in regard to the time I spend daily to earn them. The “winnings” fall short from all the time consumed here.

I am starting to lose interest in earning points if I can't redeem them. Also I think something more serious than "maintenance" is going on and that has me worried. If it's a data breach or something along those lines then I wonder if I am making things worse for myself by earning points.

[9/16/25] Hi Maria @MariaK113398 , alot of us are thinking the same thing & have taken these steps to secure our Personal Information.

(a) Changed ALL passwords used on the AARP site.

(b) Frozen our credit reports with the 3 credit agencies.

(c) Canceled credit card used to purchase giftcards.

*** I still EARN points when I think of it. NO more maxing out daily like I use to. Lol, this way I DO NOT get p.ssed off IF they "expire or get taken away" BEFORE I can use them. Yes, I am concerned too & wonder WHY there has been NO MEDIA coverage. Take care, Nicole!

I believe it’s unfair and misleading to suggest that any site was hacked without credible evidence. In today’s digital world where bad actors are constantly online, spreading false speculation about hacks can be genuinely harmful. It not only creates unnecessary fear, but also risks desensitizing people to real threats. When individuals are bombarded with speculation instead of facts, they may begin to tune out legitimate warnings. That’s why it’s so important to rely on verified information and avoid jumping to conclusions.

rg, I would agree if we were talking 24-48 hours; but with 3 or more days AND NO OPEN, HONEST communication from a site's administration, we are only left to wonder; I for one, having 50+ years IT experience (well before it was called "IT"; just one of a few in the company who wasn't afraid of these new ugly things sitting on our desks), recognize when there is something unusual and no answers are forthcoming, so AARP Administrators are wholly responsible for any and all speculation, imo...

How do you earn points now if the system is down? I continue to log in daily but I am losing interest. Plus, the points expire, don't they?

[9/16/25] Hi Linda @LindaD384658 , AARP Teri @AARPTeri posted some "links" in the Earning Activities Forum ON THIS SITE. Yes, unused points expire after a year. Nicole!

Yes, that's exactly what I'm thinking--who cares about earning *more* points if I can't redeem the points I already have?  Everyone will be rushing to redeem their 3 rewards once the site is up no matter what they're offering.  It'll be a mess.

I am still earning max points every day, but as my point total gets higher, I will probably cut back. If the rewards ever come back, I will probably enter more sweeps than I normally do, since I now have enough points for that (even though that is a black hole for points, since the probably of winning is almost nil).

@SereneSeagull aarp still encourages users to earn points, but if the wait is too long and the system is back up and running, millions of users will rush to redeem their huge accumulated points at once. This could cause a financial shock to the program and could even crash the system again due to overload.

I wouldn’t be rushing to redeem. I didn’t say that.  Relaxing and earning every so often, and if I can’t redeem, I can’t redeem.  Just giving a helpful suggestion that others had mentioned to take a screenshot if you wanted.

I'm not sure if it will be a financial shock to the program, since I doubt they will offer any more rewards than they have in the past, and they are saving money by not offering any rewards during this shutdown. But it could be a technical overload (similar to the extra credit rewards at the start of every month), which I agree will probably crash the system. But some members may just give up on the program, so might not be around if it ever comes back up for rewards.

Take a screen shot of your points, I’ve heard that can help prove what you’ve earned if any glitches.  Read that from reading other posts.

@SereneSeagull

Hi Serene

IDK but I read here in this forum a few years ago this administrator would not accept a screenshot for any activity in question. Their decision was gospel and could not be questioned. You could ask Consumer Care for verification. Maybe that policy has changed but I doubt it.  😫 😖 😤IMG_0279.gif

ON A MORE EXCITING THOUGHT!!!!
Maybe just maybe AARP has woke up and finally showed

HelloWorld / MERKLE the door and hired another firm to straighten all this mess out 🤞🤞🙏🙏

LETS HOPE THAT IS THE CASE 🤣 😆😄😃  😆

to administer this rewards program

When the site is working properly, my husband and I both usually earn at least a few points each day.  Since the glitch, however, it has been few and far between.  I guess I missed where to go to find quizzes to do.  I have clicked on a few links that people have posted to do quizzes, but it is a pain and half the time does not work.  I am pretty much over it.

And after all of the above issues.....

When playing Word Wipe do you have to watch a 3:30 minute add for Purple between games? it isn't entertaining and sure as hell didn't sell me anything

This will take you to quizzes, but you have to keep track yourself of which ones you've done: https://www.aarp.org/search/?q=Quiz&c=rewards
