AARP Rewards

AARP allows you to earn points but you have to redeem by taking chances at contests,(nobody ever wins) and/or making purchases. This is ridiculous and a slick tactic.

Yesterday, Codeword didn't award me points for playing so I chatted with an unpleasant rep who scolded me for wanting points for playing a game intended for "stress relief", and she insisted there was noting wrong with the game. She certainly gave me stress! After giving me a lecture, she said she'd give me "a one time adjustment" for Codeword game points, then, to set me straight, she emailed me details of AARP gaming. So rude! She casts a bad image for AARP, especially since their games are notoriously faulty.

@DonnaCPWSD  - We are so sorry you have had this experience when calling in.  We will do some investigating on our end about this.  Our intention is to explain to anyone who did not hit the threshold required to get points for playing is to try again.

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide the exact criteria that guarantees point earnings. Our games are primarily designed for entertainment, stress relief, social interaction, and skill development. Earning AARP Rewards points is a bonus that may depend on various gameplay factors. We encourage you to keep enjoying the games for their many benefits. If the necessary conditions are met, points will be awarded automatically.

Thanks for your feedback โ€” we appreciate you sharing your thoughts.

AARP Rewards was created to inspire our members to learn, save, and discover new things. While sweepstakes are one way to use your points, theyโ€™re not the only option. You can also redeem points for local deals, discounted gift cards, charitable donations, and more โ€” all designed with members in mind.

We do have real winners in our sweepstakes and Daily Deals, and we post them publicly:

Redeeming points is fun, and easy, I much prefer that to purchasing a gift card for not much of discount.  But, then again, Iโ€™d play these games for no rewards. And have no desire to out beat someoneโ€™s scores.

But I do find it fascinating watching the Pavlovian Theory at work.  I find the games and educational videos and quizzes pure entertainment and relaxation, which sounds as if that was its intended purpose.

While I notice that for some the expectation to โ€œgetโ€ something has been normalized.  So much so that beating top scores or getting rewards has thereby been the main objective for some.  And complaining that they didnโ€™t get what was to be rewarded to them.

So when glitches arise, as they almost always tend to do for online video games, or when someone can game the system by understanding loopholesโ€ฆit tends to result in the disappointment, at the lack what has now become a conditioned expectational reward response.

A sticky wicket for you good folks at AARP to balance.  Hope the complaints donโ€™t get you down.  Great job at pacifying a wide range of people!  Thank you.
