5th generation native of SW Colorado. The family still owns and operates the ranch on the side of the Uncompahgre Mesa which was first homesteaded by my great great grandparents about three decades before the end of the Civil War with the permission of the Ute and Navajo tribes. Great-great-Grandma's journal says that her eldest male child is the illegitimate son of Alfred Griner Packer conceived when she was a "soiled dove" in the mining camps of Utah.
