Tell us about yourself:
I am a 61-year-old married woman living in the Los Angeles area. We have two grown daughters: one is a restauranteur in the Hamptons, NY (Calissa is the name of her gorgeous restaurant in Water Mill!) and the other is getting her Master's at the University of Cambridge in England. I am a voracious reader and have been teaching piano and writing piano instruction books for 34 years! Since Covid-19 hit our area, I have been teaching piano online using Facetime, Skype and Zoom. It is a great way to teach and to connect with my students while staying safe!
Area of knowledge and what I know well:
Piano instruction for adults over 50, and I'm a music and cognitive science researcher. Check out my fun piano books here: https://www.upperhandspiano.com/
Certificates/Awards
I studied Women's Studies, philosophy and music at UCLA in the late 70s/early 80s.
I was a film composer in the 1990s-2000s (see my website GailiSchoen.com)

How did The Golden Notebook go? Did you finish it? I've got some new recommendations - LOVED Emma Straub's new book called This Time Tomorrow. Also loved Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt, The Summer Place by Jennifer Weiner, and One Ita...
I write a blog giving recommendations for books about adults over 50,RipeReads.net. I just finished a fun book called The Lager Queen of Minnesota by J. Ryan Stradal, and am now loving reading A Year by the Sea by Joan Anderson.
The Staying Sharp program has been helping me to lose weight! I have been increasing my protein and fiber at each meal and decreasing everything else, including snacks in between meals. Thanks for the recipes!
