If I change my bank account for direct deposit, when will it happen?

The wait is currently 2+ months.  In March, SSA announced that changes would soon take one business day.  However, the change I requested on May 5, 2025 is not scheduled to take effect until June 19th. Because my June payment is supposed to occur on June 17th, the first time my bank will receive the money is late July, more than 2 months after I made the request.  If you try to change your direct deposit today (June 3), the website asks if you would like the change to take effect in August or September.  Ridiculous (and costing me money), but I suppose DOGE cut the I.T. department staff...

My Mom changed her bank and the change happened the following month. No lag in her payments.

Mine took effect very quickly, it was processed for the next month payment.
