Across The Great Divide - Kate Wolf

https://youtu.be/4fXV5hMhQ20

Kate Wolf passed away in 1986 at age 44 from leukemia. There have been many covers of this beautiful song. The one by Nanci Griffith and Emmylou Harris is a most fitting tribute.

Across The Universe - The Beatles

Not often thought of as a sad song, but it really is, with melancholy being no stranger to John Lennon. He shows a sense of hopelessness in the line -

Nothing’s gonna change my world

And continues into the chant -

Jai Guru Deva

Literally translated Glory to the shining (or divine guru) remover of darkness

He is calling on the divine to remove his darkness.

This is a cover version by Evanescence. She gets it, and it’s awesome.

A most beautiful song for loss and survival.

"Hold on to Memories" - Disturbed

This video is with different people making masks to honor their lost loved ones.

This is a video of live performance with clips and footage behind them of band and various other fallen rockers , a lot of people in the audience were crying.

I printed out these lyrics and put them on my fridge.

I'm Blowin' Away:  Bonnie Raitt    (lyrics include, "I've been romanced and dined and danced/Crazy nights and wild times/But life has lost its mystery/And love is blind and cannot find me")  And those are the upbeat lyrics! Great job by Bonnie Raitt.

Another master of musical melancholia is the incomparable Julie Miller.   She is a true one of a kind.   Her own voice is a matter of taste but those songs will get you in the soul.   These include Broken Things,  Orphan train, (there are several fine songs called orphan train so look up Julie's, and All My Tears and the most famous I Still Cry.

I Dreamed About Mama Last Night:  Hank Williams; Johnny Cash    (The song, in my opinion, walks a fine line between sad and saccharine, but either way will bring a tear to the eye).
