Sounds Like **** Phenomenon

There was an episode of South Park devoted to this:

Very funny but it is a real psychological phenomenon.  My parents thought Rock and Roll sounded like **** and I think that Rap sounds like ****.   Despite my intellectual acknowledgement of this phenomenon, I can't get over the feeling that 99% of modern music is ****.  How about you?

Well this is an interesting topic.   You are right about the generations not liking the new music..  I do remember my dad who liked big band and Frank Sinatra saying that new music was crap..  but I don't.   There is crap in every generation and genre but there is good stuff in all of it and it is our privilege to have lots of music to listen to and decide about.  But then of course not everyone agrees : )

How could I possibly think modern music is crap.  There is so much that I love.

There is a topic for what are you listening to in which I post constantly about the music I listen to.  Since it is subjective and I cannot hear with someone else's ears, I can't always understand what others hear.

So what is your favorite kind of modern music? and what do you think is crap?

The last music I liked was the theme song to the TV show, Shameless, which I watched on Netflix last year.  I think the lyrics are clever.

Before that, the latest was Call Me Maybe.

Before then, the latest I can remember, is several from the 1980s.  My favorite from then was Heart of Glass.

Going back to the late 1960, I liked almost everything that was played on WLS AM radio.  But, interestingly, now, I am mostly indifferent to that music.  I now prefer music that was popular during my puberty circa 1959, even though, at that time, I was disinterested, although familiar with the music.

Recently, I was reminded of some of that music from watching the Movie, Mulholland Drive:

Read the comments under the videos and you will see that the music appeals to some people of newer generations.

The music that I hate the most is Mexican music involving an accordion and a male singer who periodically makes a high pitched sound like he was goosed.  That kind of music drives me insane.  But, I liked Pink Shoe Laces sung in Spanish on TV in 1994, telenovela Agujetas de color de rosa.

Go figure.
