Songs about Prayer and/Religion
After checking thru all our topics, I could not find one about songs about prayer and religion. There are, I think, a lot of rock songs out there that fall into this category. The song can have it in the title or in a verse, talking about prayer or religion. We should have fun with this! I will start with a fav of mine:
"Losing my religion" by REM

Take me to church by Hozier (Don't think he's really singing about Church- lol- but he's certainly doing his share of praying)
"Take me to church
I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife
Offer me that deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life"......

Oh, that reminds me of this song - - -
American Pie - Don McLean
Did you write the book of love
And do you have faith in God above
If the Bible tells you so?
Do you believe in rock and roll?
Can music save your mortal soul?
And can you teach me how to dance real slow?
Jack Flash sat on a candlestick
'Cause fire is the devil's only friend
My hands were clenched in fists of rage
No angel born in Hell
Could break that Satan's spell
To light the sacrificial rite
I saw Satan laughing with delight
The day the music died
The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed
But not a word was spoken
The church bells all were broken
The Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost
They caught the last train for the coast
The day the music died

Unanswered Prayers - Garth Brooks
Sometimes I thank God
For unanswered prayers
Remember when you're talkin'
To the man upstairs
That just because he doesn't answer doesn't mean he don't care
'Cause some of God's greatest gifts
Are unanswered prayers

Pray to God by Calvin Harris, feat. Haim
(Lots of prayer involved when love disappears)
"Ooh, I remember when this road was my own
I pray to God, I just don't know anymore
I pray to God, I just don't know anymore
And ooh, I lost the feeling, but I'm tryin' a hold on
I thought the end of love is what made you strong
I pray to God, I just don't know anymore".....

Slip Slidin' Away - Paul Simon
God only knows
God makes his plan
The information's unavailable
To the mortal man
We work our jobs
Collect our pay
Believe we're gliding down the highway
When in fact we're slip slidin' away
