PROTEST & REBELLION SONGS.."get it off your chest"
The only stipulation here is that the song should be commentary, controversial, expressing a rebellious, protesting "frame of mind"; generally, or speciffically, about society, culture, economics, wealth, poverty, politics, war, peace, relationships, etc, etc, etc.
How about some songs which, when you heard them, you thought, "Yeh, those lyrics tell it like it is!" or maybe you were offended by the controversial lyrics.
Your song selection may be from any time period in history and about any topic you choose, old songs and new songs.
Please be free to post protest & rebellion songs which either you agreed with or which "honked" you off.
Here is an opportunity to "Get it off your chest!" Go ahead and briefly include memorable lyrics of the song if you like [ if you remember 🙂 ]
To begin.....here's a protest song: Subterranean Homesick Blues Bob Dylan

We Love You - The Rolling Stones. About Mick and Keith getting arrested and jailed (very temporarily). And, singing in the background "choir": John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

Because of Vietnam the band took some heat for the song. But according to the band, the Yellow River in the song is not the one in China. It is the one in northern Indiana, and the singer is coming home from the Civil War

Hawaii '78 by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole
A deceased, yet always contemporary Hawaiian legend, Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, wrote and recorded this lament about the tragic ongoing cultural collapse of the indigenous peoples of the Hawaiian Islands.
The corrupting influences of Americans and multi-nationals have grossly disturbed the lands, plants, creatures, and intertwined peoples of the ancestral tribes. There's an active organization on the islands demanding independence from the United States and this song is an anthem.

Society's Child Janis Ian #14 1967
About a bi-racial, youthful love. A lament and protest she sings to him...
"One of these days I'm gonna stop my listening, gonna raise my head up high, one of these days I'm gonna raise my glistening wings and fly, but that day will have to wait for a while, baby I'm only society's child. When we're older things may change, but for now, this is the way they must remain"

Canadian Railway Trilogy - Gordon Lightfoot. Not written as a protest song, it became one. Canada actually planned to end Trans-Canada passenger rail service. Gordon protested - by coming into the House of Commons (The Senate may have been there, as well.) and performing this song. Not sure of the impact of just the song, but the plan was dropped. https://youtu.be/PXzauTuRG78
