LAST LINES
We’ve done First Notes and Opening Lines so
it’s time to do Last Lines. What are your most
memorable last lines of your fav songs? If
you’re so inclined, tell us why also 🎼💜
“And in the end, the love you take
Is equal to the love you make”
The End, Fab 4️⃣
The final lines from this song from the incredible Abbey Road Medley have always resonated
to me in the deepest way. To me they represent
equality, purity, love and religion all wrapped up in one. This stands as one of the best last lines ever, imo 🎼💜

"Rocks in the Ocean" - Al Stewart
Beautiful song about taking for granted a love you are given, then losing it and regretting it.
He still listens out for her foot on the stair
As he looks for her down through the years
And the friends that he had have all left one by one
For their words weren't reaching his ears
He chooses instead now to wander alone
To a song that only he hears

What you don’t have, you don’t need it now
What you don’t know, you can feel it somehow
What you don’t have, you don’t need it now
Don’t need it now
Was a beautiful day
Beautiful Day - U2
Bono said it was about “a man who has lost everything, but finds joy in what he still has.”
Other interpretations, including my own: Live in the present, don’t let it get away, appreciate what you have, and not be concerned about material things.

And we’ll bask in the shadow of yesterday’s triumph
Sail on the steel breeze
Come on, you boy-child
You winner and loser
Come on, you miner for truth and delusion, and shine
Shine On You Crazy Diamond (end parts 2 & 3) - Pink Floyd
We won’t forget you, shine on, Syd.

Well you wore out your welcome with random precision
Rode on the steel breeze
Come on, you raver, you seer of visions
Come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine
Shine On You Crazy Diamond (end of part 1) - Pink Floyd
“Random precision” is an interesting choice of words, here.

Someday when we’re dreaming
Deep in love, not a lot to say
Then we will remember
Things we said today
Things We Said Today - The Beatles
It’s a fascinating song, the way it’s written. McCartney called the song “future nostalgia” that is “projecting something in the future that exists now”. It sounds dark as it alternates between minor and major chords, though the lyrics are romantic. Did he already suspect that his romance with girlfriend Jane Asher was already doomed?

"In the Year 2525" - Zager & Evans
"Now it's been ten thousand years
Man has cried a billion tears
For what, he never knew, now man's reign is through
But through eternal night, the twinkling of starlight
So very far away, maybe it's only yesterday"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKQfxi8V5FA
About the future, that isn't as much science fiction as we thought. (also in First Lines)

"Truly Madly Deeply" - Savage Garden
"I'll be your dream, I'll be your wish, I'll be your fantasy.
I'll be your hope, I'll be your love, be everything that you need.
I'll love you more with every breath, truly madly deeply do
I want to stand with you on a mountain
I want to bathe with you in the sea.
I want to lay like this forever.
Until the sky falls down on me."
Beautiful love song.

"To The Moon and Back" - Savage Garden
"She's saying, love is like a barren place
And reaching out for human faith is
Is like a journey I just don't have a map for
So baby gonna take a dive and push the shift to overdrive
Send a signal that she's hanging all her hopes on the stars"
About a women that has hard life, past heartaches, can't trust, looks for love and someone that listens and wants to rescue her.

Everyday is sunshine, girl you’re on my mind
One of a kind, one of a kind love affair is
Makes me want to, want to be with you
(One of a kind) baby, baby, baby
One of a kind (Love Affair) Spinners
Celebrating the most special and perfect
love that isn’t going to make it to forever.
My most fav Spinners song 🎼💜

"The rivers are full of crocodile nasties
And he who made kittens put snakes in their grasp
He's a lover of life but a player of pawns
Yes, the King on His sunset lies waiting for dawn
To light up His Jungle as play is resumed
The monkeys seem willing to strike up the tune
Well, let's bungle in the jungle
Well, that's all right by me, yes
I'm a tiger when I want love
And I'm a snake when we disagree"
Bungle In The Jungle - Jethro Tull
...always thought Machiavelli's The Prince (Like Galileo's Dialogue) reads like a satire written with just enough care to save the author's skin from the full wrath of 'the powers that be'.
Labelling it a 'literary classic' is a sad statement about the culture. These days it could be titled 'Creating a Sartrean Hell For Dummies'.

All my sorrow
Sad tomorrow
Take me back to my own home
Reflections of my life, Marmalade
This amazing song from 1969 offers
a message about the world we live
in today. Also the conflict between
living unhappily and death, not the
option he wants 🎼💜

A time to rend, a time to sew
A time for love, a time for hate
A time for peace, I swear it’s not too late

Making friends for the world to see
Let the people know you got what you need
With a friend at hand you will see the light
If your friends are there, then everything’s
all right
Friends, Sir Elton John
This beautiful and uplifting song from 1971
is one of his best recordings 🎼🎼💜
True friends like diamonds are precious
but rare…..

And you know that it’s right
We have got to get it together
We have got to get it together now
Something in the air, Thunderclap Newman
Although this song from 1969 is about an
impending revolution, it’s theme about
getting it together rings true about the
times we live in
