GREAT COVERS OF YOUR FAVORITE SONGS
For many an original song that they love cannot and will not ever be duplicated by a cover, but there are many songs that have been done equally (debatebly) well by others..
So do you have favorites?
What are your favorite covers of favorite songs?

Downtown Train - Rod Stewart (Tom Waits cover)
Downtown Train - Bob Seger
Tom Waits original - https://youtu.be/qWDJIwqCXi4
I never cared for Tom Waits vocals, but he wrote some great songs. Rod Stewart made it famous, Bob Seger made it cool! Edge to Seger on this one for me. 😎

I know what you mean about his voice. But, I can't really imagine somebody else doing this song: TOM WAITS- COLD COLD GROUND https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4UqE5c8G6E
It's kinda like Bob Dylan; he doesn't have the greatest voice either, or Ozzy Osborne. But, I wouldn't want do without their music.

"Run Runaway" * Slade [83]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMxcGaAwy-Q&ab_channel=GanarlyFilms
The Scottish glam group sampled a 1850 church hymn written by Andrew Young [1838] arranged by L B Breedlove in [1858] called "There is a Happy Land". and came away with a #1 hit. I kid you not...........
- It is sung in the film Arsenic and Old Lace (1944)
- The melody is borrowed in the rock song "Run Runaway" (1983) by Slade

Well, what do you know? Great Big Sea also did this song (not a rock version; more of a folk/culture song).

Oh yeah, that song! They (Knickerbockers) sounded so much like The Beatles. I noticed someone wrote in the YT comments that John Lennon heard it and made the remark, “ I don’t remember recording that.” 😂

I love that comment. Their cover of "I want To Hold Your Hand" was pretty good.

Surprised they didn't do more Beatles covers.

Good song. Good version. I like the Bangles version. But between the two, The Bangles has a tad bit of a shrill voice. This version has a smoother voice and is a tad bit easier on the ears (for quieter times). I still like the Bangles; don't know if I can really pick between the two. Different versions for different moods.

The Beatles had some of the best rock n roll covers of all time. It was so much fun to watch them just break into one on the Get Back movie. I loved watching Paul just shred that piano like nothing to it, baby! My favorite would be this one … Paul on piano and John kills it on vocals.

Question: Does anyone know the English version of this song? It sounds so familiar, but I can't put my finger on it.

There's a song I like that has several covers; A Man Without Love. I'm not sure Who Barry Mason is, or when he wrote this song, but 3 favorite versions of this are by Engelbert Humperdinck, Tom Jones, and Florian Haidt (German).

It is a beautiful song. Thanks for those links @dl73698250 and the memories. The German one was very nice. Wonderful voice.
Barry Mason was a singer songwriter. He wrote "Delilah" with Les Reed for Tom Jones and some other songs for others and himself. Like, he wrote "Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)" with Tony Macaulay.
Mason adapted "A Man Without Love" from an Italian song "Quando m'innamoro" - written by Daniele Pace, Mario Panzeri, Roberto Livraghi.
Guess the timeline was 1968, seems all stems at this date. The first live performance in Italy was by Anna Identici. The English versions have the credits with the Italian writers and Barry's name.
I also like the Sergio Franchi version. He sings it in English and Italian.

MeTV (if you get it) has reruns of Ed Sullivan on Sunday nights. There is a channel on you tube with Sergio's songs. There are a lot of the performances from the Ed Sullivan Show if you want to check them out.

Thanks @Vexed. I’ll check them out on YouTube. A while back, I found a video of him singing Volare. That’s my favorite. Torna ‘a Surriento is another one.

You are welcome. Yes @MaVolta , never get tired of hearing a great voice and song.
That is like Andrea Bocelli's "Con Te Partiro" from 97. He is in his 60's today and still sounds great. But that music and his voice fills my soul when I hear it. When it came out, I raved about it so much, I received 3 cd's of the Romanza album from people at work. 🐱 Still play them from time to time. Wore that song out at first though. 🐱
