GREAT COVERS OF YOUR FAVORITE SONGS

For many an original song that they love cannot and will not ever be duplicated by a cover, but there are many songs that have been done equally (debatebly) well by others..

So do you have favorites?

What are your favorite covers of favorite songs?

Bobby Freeman's "Do You Wanna Dance?" (1958) has been covered by numerous times {e.g. Bet Midler, Cliff Richard, Mamas & Papas)

The Beach Boys cover {1965} was notable because it was their only single that featured drummer Dennis Wilson singing lead. Reaching # 12 for the year.

"Hush" originally by Joe South was incredible! He could write great songs, had a fine singing voice, and was a talented session guitarist. The famous cover version of "Hush" by Deep Purple needed only a slight 'reworking' to transform it into the hard rock classic that it became. Here's the original, since the Deep Purple is usually the one broadcast.

"The Lament of the Cherokee Nation" * John D Loudermilk

written  by JDL with original lyrics. Didn't get recognition til popularized by the Raiders in 70.

The Raiders cover {called Indian Reservation} was ok enough to carry it to No. 1. But even so I prefer the gritty hard edged original.

This isn't exactly a cover. It is a duet with the original recording artist.

I have been a fan of Andrea Bocelli ❣️ ( since I heard "Con Te Partiro" in the late 90's - he can sing a braille phone book or anything for me 😊 ) and in the last few years a fan of Ed Sheeran. How I missed this one, I will never know.

The song of Ed's is "Perfect".  The duet of Andrea Bocelli and Ed Sheeran is "Perfect Symphony". Please give it a listen and a view (as the video is very good). I think it is beautiful.

Love Jon Anderson, but way too Yes over orchestrated.

This song does not need a Squier bass solo, or all those

Wakeman glises.

I love Yes always have always will. But its at best an over orchestrated version.

Musicianship aside, its over done. Yes Howe is a genius. But its not a good version, sorry

@Vexed - That’s a great one! Love how the drummers are channeling Keith Moon! They did their homework. 😎

"Time Is On My Side"

Dionne Warwick, Dee Dee Warwick & Cissy Houston combined for the vocal on this original (largely wordless) version of the song, top-credited to jazz-pop trombonist Kai Winding, Oct. 1963.

Noticed in the liner notes Kai gave none of those wonderful vocalists credit by name, shame on him.

Nice! The banjo and slide guitar are amazing additions to the acoustic guitar, which I assume is played by Simon. The harmonies are beautifully done as well. Great pick, @Raynyky.

Here’s the link for anyone else who’s interested.
