FAVORITE MALE SINGERS OF ANY GENRE

Well, we can't leave the guys out can
we?  Who are your favorite male singers of any
genre?  I'm not talking bands here but solo artists.  Of
course, if they were in a band and also went solo you can still name
them such as Jon Bon Jovi or Richie Sambora both of whom are members
of the group Bon Jovi but have also gone solo.  Here's some of
mine from times past to the present:

Frank Sinatra,
Perry Como, Dean Martin, Brook Benton, Jerry Butler, Conway Twitty,
Johnny Cash, Charley Pride, Johnny Tillotson, Donovan,
Eddie Cochran, Gene McDaniels, Glen Yarborough, Neil Young, Bob
Dylan, John Fogerty, John Mellencamp, Eric Clapton, and so many more.

You may also name
your favorite male singer from a band but not the band itself.
For instance, we all know that Diane loves the band Aerosmith
but she would say Steven Tyler.

Oh ya, how could I forget that.  That was a good one : )

You should do a photoshop Christmas card of you, your husband and add those guys(Bon Jovi) as part of your family.  It would be so cool!

I once decorated the outside of my cube with an Ozzie Osbourne Christmas tree.  I cut out tons of picures of them all and pasted on little red santa hats with cotton balls on the ends and hung them as ornaments.  I still have pictures of that .. I will try to find them  : )

No wonder we are friends  LOL

Diane

Hi Diane,

You are so much like me it's unreal.  I have to find my picture of my cubicle on Valentine's Day.  I made red and pink hearts and then used white doily paper and put pics of Jon Bon Jovi in the middle.  He was all over my cubicle.  I'll post it when I find it.

Great minds think alike.  LOL

Hi all

I have to add a more
current member to this group of honored male artists; the
legendary Kurt
Cobain

of Nirvana.
Another band that broke new ground but went back to the roots of
blues for some of their great songs.    Anyone who
has heard his unplugged version of "Where Did You Sleep Last
Night"  (Leadbelly) cannot deny his place in this
group.  He sat there on that stage in jeans and that famous
sweater and poured out this song.

Sadly, I never got
to appreciate Kurt Cobain until after his death.  Since we
were talking about David Bowie before that brought to mind
Kurt's rendition of David's "The Man Who Sold the World".

My daughter teaches pre-school at a Christian school.  She has toddlers.  Every year, at the end of the year, she puts individual pictures and little videos of each child, taken throughout the school year, on DVD for the parents.  So there, on DVD for them to keep for life, are pictures of their little one, as he or she grew through the year.  It is enough to bring tears to your eyes just as it is, but Megan adds music.  Last year, the music she added was "Little Wonders" by Rob Thomas.  When that song is the background to those marvelous tiny moments of each child's life, it stays forever with you as something infinitey sweet.  I wish you could all see how marvelously they go together.  Those tiny faces and that lovely song.  Very special.  Not a single parent got those that didn't send amazing thank you notes.  It was a big hit.  This year, she usesd Louis Armstrong, "It's a Wonderful World."  Another big hit!

That's really great.  My girlfriend's daughter had down's syndrome and drowned in a swimming pool at the age of 5.  She made a DVD of her and added the song "I Will Always Think About You" by The New Colony Six.  Do you remember that one?

That was torture alright.  I remember seeing that bed at the Rock 'n Roll Museum.  We were there during the John Lennon exhibit.

Ya, the bed.  OK  well.......

but I gotta give it to them for never being afraid or backing down from their commitment to what they believed in.

Do you remember the interview, I think with Dick Cavett where he actually addresses the fact that the press had called Yoko ugly... and you could just see how he couldn't believe how rude the press could be.

Yes, he's definitely sexy.  Nicolette Sheridan sure thinks so.  She's gone back to him twice.  I have some great photos of Michael in concert.  I was in the third row.  I also have some pics of him at a charity baseball game here in Milwaukee.  I even have one of him getting kissed by Nicolette during the game.  That was the first time they were going together.

Michael Bolton at the 1990 Grammy Awards

Here's a favorite of mine.  Known for his soft rock ballads and tenor vocals Michael Bolton.

He's also a great songwriter.  He wrote "How Am I Supposed To Live Without You" for Laura Branigan who took it to #1 on the adult contemporary charts.  He then wrote "I Found Someone" for Laura who had a minor hit with it but Cher resurrected the song and her singing career with it two years later.  Michael went on to co-write more songs for these two singers.  He has also written songs for such artists as Barbara Streisand, Kenny G, Patti LaBelle, Kenny Rogers and Peabo Bryson.

I am a ::huge:: Zappa fan!  Those Mothers were great!  Their album, "Freak Out!" is one of my favorite things in the world.  I rocked my babies to sleep to two songs that made my mom crazy - -   "Wowie, Zowie" and Arlos Guthrie's "I Don't Want a Pickle."  My kids all grew up singing those two and  "Alice's Restaurant" as well.  Arlo was great.

Yes, Frank was great.  His son Dweezil just played the other day at our 11 day music festival called Summerfest.  He's calling his tour Zappa plays Zappa.  He got a great review in our local Milwaukee Journal.  I got to see Arlo at the University Wisconsin Milwaukee campus.  What a great concert that was.  I love the pickle song and I love the song Alice's Restaurant and the movie too.
