Forgive the Generation X movie reference, but reality could bite for those born from 1965 to 1980 as they close in on retirement. More than half of Gen Xers donโ€™t think theyโ€™ll be financially prepared when the time comes to retire, according to Northwestern Mutualโ€™s 2025 Planning & Progress Study.

โ€œThey are absolutely behind on saving for retirement,โ€ says Mindy Wilke, wealth management adviser with Wilke Wealth and Investment Planning, a Northwestern Mutual affiliate in Franklin, Wisconsin.

Totally get this. Between college costs for kids and helping parents, saving for myself got pushed back. Lately Iโ€™ve been automating savings so at least somethingโ€™s always going toward retirement.
