The rust belt better be, as here I am stuck. My house has been paid off for years, yet not increased in significant value to allow me to sell & freely buy elsewhere. Not necessarily a bad thing, but again not a great thing.
Not everyone's retirement is happy joy, joy.. fun in the sun, playing golf daily, cards at the club in Coconut Creek with your friends, visiting the grandkids, deciding what color your new Lexus will be, or several yearly vacations. You have to.....

(3/18/24) @Tempest332 , darn - I thought you had won the lottery and moved to the Rust Belt since you had not posted recently. Oh well... ๐ต

Or dropped over. ๐
Winning the lottery wouldn't necessarily matter unless it was substantial sum, but I don't play the lottery, as I can't say I ever won anything significant in my life.
I'm not currently retired, a couple years back the carpet was pulled out from underfoot, delaying that, as well as living costs being based on dual income households, & I don't plan on getting my pay doubled at anytime soon, especially after I retire.

I had just got out of the military (Vietnam era) and my savings were nearly gone. My new (then) wife and I bought groceries with the last of our money. Unemployment benefits were still a month away. I was accepted to college but the semester (and GI Bill payments) wouldnโt start for another month. My wife had just started a new job and was waiting for her first check (that would pay rent). Looked like it was going to be a hungry monthโฆ.but I used my last dollar to buy a lottery ticket at the grocery store. Won $100 cash! Equivalent to about $500 these days. That money saved us from going hungry. Iโve never won a single lottery prize since!

(4/14/24) THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!!! How ironic @AZBlueSkies , I had just won my 1st $100 last week from a $1 Scratch Off lottery ticket. Usually I get a FREE ticket or $1. I ONLY spend $2 each week for two $1 tickets when I go for groceries at Walmart. ๐ต
