I believe that AARP members would benefit if AARP could find a way to fix the Deal of the Day site so that if you click on "add to cart", the item would actually be added. After adding the deal, i was challenged to "verify my account" 2 times prior to the system letting me get to view my cart. By that time, even after having clicked "add" a few minutes prior, the system told me that the item was sold out. It may be necessary for AARP to use an outside contractor with a larger capacity to process the Deal of the Day, but fixing the program would likely help keep more members satisfied. This also only seems to happen when there is a high-value card for a "high-value" vendor. Most of the time, now, the system works fine. Ticket companies (and COVID shot vendors) seem to have solved this by establishing a "waiting room" prior to letting you into the site, effectively metering you in to avoid server overload.
I have had this issue in the past. The best way to prevent this from happening is to click on the account details drop down before the deal becomes available. You will be prompted to enter your password (for security reasons, they always ask you to verify your account with a password before entering this section). Once you are in, go back to the redeem page and wait for the deal to become available. When it does, add to cart and you will not be prompted to re-verify because you just did.
