Can talking About Grief All The Time Wear One Down?

I’ve decided to put this on the Front Porch, rather than the Grief Forum, out of respect for those wanting to share their grief on that board.

I don’t know how others feel, but for me, years after a loved one’s death, re-living the pain and the suffering that they endured at their death, or before their death has to stop enveloping me by talking about it or thinking about it constantly.  I believe I’ve achieved that as a work in progress, by LIVING my life, and moving out of that sorrow.   Staying active and maintaining friends who want and can do that as well.  Looking for the positive and not wallowing in the negative or sadness.

A great topic came up recently here, and it got me to thinking.

When I see multiple, grief group help reminder posts here every day, it makes me wonder how much is too much talking about death all the time?  It can’t be healthy, can it?  Too depressing to see for me in a post list , one after another.  Yes, helpful for those who need it, and I I try when I see a post from someone reaching out I’ll try and answer.  But the reminders that we have grief support are populated more than the grieving posts.

So at what point do we decide as a group of seniors in our own lives, that there has got to be other things to talk about all the time.  In our social circles.  Yes, the reality is we are all going to die, as are our loved ones.  And living our lives without them can be a struggle.

But for me… seeing so much talk about grief, makes me wonder …there has to be other things to pick ourselves up with, right?  Where is the line that we can straddle?   Expressing our grief can lead to dealing with it, and acceptance.  But at what point is the talking about it too much?

✌️🙂
