Membership Practices are Wasting Money

Hello, my membership is paid through August of 2029.

I have received the rather flimsy "gifts" for membership renewal and I think you could actually provide something better if you stopped sending out so much mail where most of it is telling me to renew my membership. That is a ton of mail, a ton of postage and it goes straight in the trash. It will now be going straight in the trash until 2029.

The other negative here is that according to some of the posts on this community, many members see this mail blitz as an unethical attempt to benefit from members that get confused and keep renewing even though their membership is not due for renewal. Some of these members are pretty upset and would not have much of problem filing a formal complaint about this practice by AARP. It is not a good look.

It actually concerns me more that AARP might be so unorganized that the membership department does not have decent computerization and literally does not have the capacity to sort memberships with any accuracy. Also, not a good look.

Most obvious is the sheer waste of money for all the paper that you send out that is totally unnecessary. Not impressive.

Does anyone actually look at these communities to see what members are saying? I mean a living human being, not a bot. I am not seeing a lot of meaningful feedback from AARP to member concerns and it seems everyone is busy sending out mail trying to scramble more money from paid up members. Paid up members that would like see some real benefits to this membership.

I would just like to see all the mail stop since (let me remind you one more time) I am paid up through 2029. Is there a way to make this harassment stop?

@l895824k Thank you for being a valued part of our family, we appreciate your membership! AARP sends renewal notices to accounts that expire within 6 months and up to 3 months after expiration. Our hope is that our members are able to renew before experiencing any interruption in their membership, including receipt of AARP The Magazine or their AARP Bulletin. Plus, some members have their life insurance, car insurance and more linked to their AARP membership, and it could be detrimental for it to lapse.

In fact, we have found that many members prefer to renew far before the actual membership expiration date at a time that is convenient for them. We also send renewal promotional offers that many members enjoy taking advantage of.

If you would prefer to receive fewer mailings, you may be interested in signing up for Automatic Renewal, which automatically renews memberships annually. Learn more about the benefits of enrolling Automatic RenewalIf you received mail from AARP that was not addressed to you directly with your name and membership number, it is likely a generic promotion. Generic promotional pieces are sent out in mass mailings as part of AARP’s overall membership acquisition program.

Also, we would never want any of our members to have excessive payments on their accounts; membership overpayments are automatically refunded once the account has reached 2 advance renewals. Please contact us so that we can assist you with reducing your membership renewal mail: https://aarp.info/3epCObA
