The Evolution of Well-being
Outside the rec center adjacent to my condo building, a thick multi branched tree no longer has any blooms. It is a barren eyesore that I feel needs to be chopped down, but I (wheel-chair bound and afraid of trespassing) have no influence over that bleak reminder of our mortality. Today, however, I noticed clusters of small buds on all of the tree’s limbs, buds that presage a renewal of the surging life-giving force that reanimates nature. I have at times identified with the desiccated tree limbs, especially when I fell and fractured my pelvis. But just as the tree has begun to bloom, I have improved my well-being--bit by bit, bud by bud. The tree and I are curriers of wellness. I am confident that (with even a trace of moisture), the tree will once again flourish—just as I will regain better health with a positive attitude reinforced by the regeneration of the overarching limbs of the once skeletal scraggly tree that is now my precious companion.
