The actor gained fame for her ‘Kiss my grits’ catchphrase, but her career encompassed far more than broad comedy.

Polly Holliday, a versatile actor who found fame in the 1970s as sassy Southern waitress Flo on the sitcom Alice, died Tuesday. She was 88.

Flo’s catchphrase — “Kiss my grits!” — became an indelible part of American pop culture during Alice’s TV run from 1976 to 1985. The character also earned Holliday four Emmy nominations — three for her work on Alice and one for her spin-off series Flo — along with Golden Globe wins in 1979 and 1980. (She was also nominated for a Golden Globe in 1981 for Flo.)

I still watch reruns on YouTube. I was a big fan of the show. I fondly remember watching it on Sunday nights so many years ago when I was in school. RIP Polly.

Thank you for the information,  Nicole. I had no idea. I believe that she was the last surviving member of the original cast. I always think about her character having several ex husbands and lots of boyfriends. I also remember her character talking about going Jitterbugging. Thanks again for letting us know, Nicole. 💌

When I think about Polly, I remember her playing the mean lady from the bank in Gremlins, Jill's mother on Home Improvement, and a neighbor of Sally Field in Mrs.Doubtfire. 🙂

Hello Nicole!  I watch the reruns of Alice on regular YouTube. Several people have uploaded various episodes and whole seasons. I just checked. The free episodes are listed below the pay ones and the ones to buy. There are episodes from Belkis in ignesi,Khanh Handmade, and Tuntuni Stories. Happy viewing! 🙂👩‍🏫
