The Full Strawberry Moon, in June: 6/10-6/11 [2025]
Look up to the sky, and adore the full ๐ moon, tonight! Listen to the crickets chirp. See the milky way. Wish on a star. Harvest some strawberries. Take pictures. Get some fresh air.
This month, the Strawberry Moon offers a spectacular celestial display, with its fully illuminated disk gracing the night sky on June 11.
What makes this particular Strawberry Moon truly special is its remarkably low trajectory โ it will be the lowest full moon in decades. All full moons possess distinct characteristics, and for us in the Northern Hemisphere, the June full moon is always known for riding low in the sky, a celestial mirror to the low-riding December sun. It's a consistent astronomical dance: when the sun climbs high in the summer sky [as it does this month, near the solstice], the moon dips low.
However, 2025 introduces a unique element. We are currently close to a Major Lunar Standstill, an 18.6-year cycle that governs the inclination of the moon's orbit. This cycle occurs as the moon's path is gradually pulled and shifted, primarily by the sun's gravitational influence. While the peak of this Major Lunar Standstill occurred in January 2025, its profound effects are still very much influencing the path of this June full moon, contributing significantly to its unusually low appearance.

๐๐๐โ Shenanigans!
Can't spot the full moon because of these wonderfully uncooperative clouds? Classic! Don't worry, the moon's still there. It's just decided to play an epic game of hide-and-seek with the entire atmosphere. Probably snickering from behind that grey curtain. <๐
