Happy Summer to all of my Community! It has been a while since chatting with
and finding out what is happening in the Retirement Club.
lots of things have happened in our lives. Sometimes I wonder What Country are
we living in. Trying to stay happy and focused each day. There are days when it
seems as if the World is turned upside down. I am a positive and Educated person
and I don’t want my grandchildren or children that I’ve taught to like in a “Chaotic”
world. Hopefully I am not the only person who wants Peace and Happiness in my
life.
My Prayer is that we don’t have a War. Lived that as a teenager fearing the
Vietnam Era. I want my Country to be at Peace! I am afraid to travel and have to
Tell which Country I am from!
So Community Let’s Continue to live our “Best Life!”
Happy Summer!😊
…..I so agree! Embrace every day and begin it with a gratitude list. 🌈
Sadly, the older we are, the more likely it is that we have encountered the specters of war. My earliest was listening to a Great Aunt read aloud the final letter that she received from her brother. He had written it two days before he was killed - November 7, 1918 at Meuse-Argonne - just three days before The Armistice. Half a century later, she still grieved.…..
During my tweens, my friends and I all wore a Vietnam War POW bracelet - mine held the name “Lt. William Shankal”. He was released February 12, 1973, yet many of my friends’ bracelets held names of men who never came home.…..
My close childhood friend’s Father never made it off the beach at Normandy. Both she and her Mother are gone, but I still keep her mother’s well-worn “Victory” pin on my bureau.…
….I could go on, but we have all had similar encounters with the portent of conflict throughout our lives. While I realize that I have no control over the chaos, there are moments when I am overwhelmed with the feelings of uncertainty and helplessness. Like you, I have resolved to find joy in small moments every day. While Plato may have been right - that only the dead have seen the end of war - I too take comfort in living my “Best Life”.
At the risk of sounding naive, I also remember something that Mr. Roger’s suggested around 60 years ago. He spoke about how he had watched something turbulent and upsetting on the TV news broadcast and had run to his mother for comfort. Her reply? “Find the helpers.” 🌈 The very next day, my six-year-old self, while watching the TV news, focused on the fireman bringing out a little dog from a burning house.
And yes, it does bring a small comfort that even now, during tragedy, unrest and division, there remain “helpers”. They might be vastly outnumbered by the parasites and the exploiters, but they are still here!
Thank you for sharing this! 🌈🙏
