[6/2/26] Michelle @MichelleC103656 , I am glad I am old and will be gone soon. My heart just could NOT take too much more of the way society is now.

I stay in Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays. And go out when EVERYONE is "hopefully" working and NOT "riding" my bumper. Here in Virginia we have alot of mountains & 2-lane roads. I use to ENJOY driving, but as I AGE, I am over it. I now go out "as needed". Over the years, EVERY accident I had - someone ran into my bumper. Yes, NOT "paying" attention. I use to listen to my radio, tapes as a youngster while driving. NOT anymore. I need to drive for myself & the other driver. Lol, even IF I have the right a way, I will NOT push for it = I let the bully have it. I luv being "alive" in these AWFUL times of road rage killing people.

I will check on you AGAIN for our "next" WELLNESS Check for our group on July 1st.

Nicole  ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿค—

Yes,the legal system is a joke. New York is completely and totally ridiculous. I have seen on the news about some people being arrested 60 times and are still walking free. I wish that more states were like California, 3 strikes and you are locked up for the rest of your life. Here in New York,  the most crimes are still teenagers stealing cars and  crashing them, and drunk drivers. The courts just keep releasing them. A police officer was killed by a teenager running a stop sign. The police, judge, and DA somehow said that the boy couldn't be charged with anything. How can that be?  He killed someone. I am constantly let confused and wondering what has happened to the world. I just don't know. I am so glad and happy that you have a car and are able to get out of your apartment. A vehicle is freedom and a wonderful part of life. I am very glad that you and Mister are doing well. We have to watch out for so many different kinds of wild animals here, too. We make the cats come in earlier than usual. Stewie did get into some plants, lilies. He was chewing on the leaves. He has been on a couple different medications. We are lucky that it wasn't worse. He was trying to catch a big squirrel a few minutes ago. It was trying to bury a walnut in one of our potted plants. They have done that too many times and have even broken some of our pots. Someone was knocking on the front door. It was the mailman. We had an Amazon package, some Gain, and new tags for the cats. They are from Crumb. It is a new network and way to track your cats and dogs when they get lost. The first one was free. We have to add the app and get them all set up to keep the kitty cats safe. Okay,I had better get going. It is always wonderful to receive your messages, Nicole. I am very happy that you and Mister are doing better. Hugs and Luv to you and yours from me and the Crew! Thank you so much for your kind words and support. Talk to you again, real soon! ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿ˜ธ๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ˜บ

Oh Nicole, I know what mean. Jim and I talk about it all the time. We miss the way things used to be. We miss the "old" world. We miss better and simpler times. At least we knew a better world. Some people never will. Bye for now, until another day and time!๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿค—๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿ˜บ

Hi my name is Marian. My husband, Gary, died two months ago. I do like to talk about his death as it helps me process it. I lost my first husband 2009. Married Gary in 2016. What a life I have had. Iโ€™m not bitter or mad. Iโ€™m just lonely. ๐Ÿ˜

Thank you. So nice to have others thinking of my loss. My first husband died in 2009. Many of my family members abandoned me as they didnโ€™t like my second husband. Now that my second husband died I hear from 3 out of 12 brothers and sisters. It sure is hard to learn how to live alone and not hear from some of my own siblings. But life goes on and my own children are wonderful.

[7/1/26] It is SO GOOD to hear from you Marian @MarianS446683 !!!

Yes, I know what you mean.

It took my mom passing for me and my two wonderful brothers to have a "chance" to DEVELOP a "healthy" relationship. Years of being the " black sheep" because I lived life MY WAY.

And YES, my "precious" only child is my bestie. We BOTH "miss" her father, but are LEARNING to "move" forward.

Sounds like things are "falling" in place for you dear friend.

Luv,

Nicole ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿค—๐Ÿค— (Grief Forum)

I am a 53 yr old adult with ASD. My dad was really the only family I had. We always celebrated our bdays together, mine April 3- he fell and had to have brain surgery. Never recovered. Passed on April 10. His bday May 4- I was so lost without him. I feel broken. I feel like the world just got so big and confusing. I dont know how to live without him. Who do I call when life is hard? Who do I have lunch with? Go shopping with? Or celebrate my bday with? I don't know how to do this. I don't want to.

Iโ€™m so sorry for your unexpected loss, @BocaWoman . Thatโ€™s really hard. I would imagine itโ€™s been hard to cope without him. For many people getting involved in volunteering or activities can keep the mind and hands busy.  It doesnโ€™t stop the pain of loss, but can occupy oneโ€™s mind and keep from being enveloped in the horrible sadness.  Iโ€™m sorry for your pain. It can be hard without the people we love.  What gives me comfort when my mind starts down that sad feeling, is to know my loved one loved me and would not want me to isolate and feel discouraged and sad.  Itโ€™s hard at times to remember that, but it has helped me through many a time.  Take care of yourself.

My heart aches for you. In 2007, my husband had a motorcycle accident and died within two months of the accident. I was devastated, caught off guard, and felt a host of other emotions. Sending you a virtual hug.

Nicole, it's not just U.S. families, but citizens around the world who have lost loved ones/family... It needs to recognized that others are being lost every day to wars, many recent, with our U.S. hands involved...

I am approaching 84. Six months ago I lost my oldest son. Since then, I have done some brief support groups. I was in good health on my age. But all of a sudden, I am faced with a cluster of disturbing physical conditions. I feel like a century since my son died. I want to be in a group to just talk about it.

@NonieS198048

I'm so very sorry for your loss. I can't image how it must feel to lose your son right now. It's a shock and it must feel like your safety net has been pulled away in some ways. The grief and missing him is so intense I'm sure. Grief is hard on us on every level - mentally, physically, emotionally. And it affects our health. That may be a factor in terms of our recent challenges with multiple physcal conditions.

I'm glad to hear you've done some brief stints in grief support, and I agree it could be extremely helpful for you to be in an ongoing group to to get support and and be able to talk about what you're going through.

Unfortunately, AARP doesn't currently offer a grief support group - just the online grief community here on the AARP Online Community. But I think a virtual or in person group could be marvelous for you.

Now - to find one...here are a few options off the top of my head...

  • I am currently coordinating virtual AARP caregiver support groups and we are using a platform called HeyPeers. I did a search and they have a number of grief and bereavement support groups. You can find them listed here: https://www.heypeers.com/meetings. On the right side of the screen, you'll see categories. Check the box for "Grief and Loss" and then it will filter all the groups for those that offer grief support. they are offered (free I think - at least some of them) and you can subscribe and register for them there by clicking on a specific group meeting then you will be able to sign up for multipe meetings. these meetings are virtual - so you'll need to use your computer or smartphone. But I have found that the virtual groups are incredibly helpul and effective .
  • Another virtual option are groups offered by Duet - an organization in Phoenix, Arizona but they are open to people across the country. I have personal experience with this organizaion and have observed their groups and they are good quality. Here is the link: https://duetaz.org/support-groups/ (they are geared for people who have formerly been caregivers for loved ones).
  • There is an organization called GriefShare. they do virtual and in person support groups. They work with a network of faith-based organizations across the country to "host" the meetings, but my understanding is tthat you need not be a member of a specific faith group to participate. it is a multiple week program. I know people who have attended and found it helpful. https://www.griefshare.org/?srsltid=AfmBOor1cPdC8AwLfOVidaDduZDCXEr9gUpWpJYmFAnaGkfzTpjzPyjv
  • Last option I want to share is to contact a local hospice organization and/or funeral home and ask if they have a list of local grief support groups. They often have a list of organizations you can contact.

Also please be aware there is a section of the AARP website with Grief and Loss resources and articles that might be helpful to you at: www.AARP.org/griefandloss

I hope between all of these options you can find a good fit for you.

Please let me know how else I can be helpful! My heart goes out to you. there are caring people out there who can support and helpful. We juist need to get you connected. Isolation is bad for your health - not just mental health - physical health too. Let's get you connected!

One day at a time. ๐Ÿ˜

Take care,

Amy
