I just added my voice to a campaign. I was forced to choose a salutation for myself and the choices were Mrs. Mr. and Ms. I am a straight woman. I hate to use a salutation since the three "regular" ones are really not enough for all the people to choose from. So I suggest you add some more, if we must have a salutation (which I hope we don't). Maybe M. and Mx. and some other that may be used these days. Really, I have to use a salutation in 2023? Salutations should be optional. And it should be possible to send emails, emails, directly to the administration of AARP for exactly these questions so I know that I've made my position clear to the people in charge.
@ElizabethI572682 Thank you for taking the time to share your suggestion, it is greatly appreciated! I have taken note of your input for our team to review. At this time, we do not have an email address that accepts incoming inquiries. I invite you to check out all of the contact options we have available here: https://aarp.info/3epCObA
Don't you think this will further confuse individuals? You're stating to get rid of the three "regular" ones, yet wanting to add M. and/or Mx. This, for me would only bring on confusion. Either you want them gone, or you could just as easily use the ones that are already available? I do agree that the use of Ms/Miss/Mr/Mister/Missus/Mrs/Sir/Madam/Ma'am should be optional, but it's not that big of a deal for me, at least. Good luck with your mission.
I don't care which ones they add or remove. I want to be able to opt out or add one if I want to (which I won't) of my own choosing. I don't think it'll confuse people who don't identify as the big three (or are just habituated to choosing). Since there is no way to cover all the ways one might want to salute oneself, I really would like it to be optional. It made me cranky to have to choose from those three, and it makes the organization look lazy and/or a bit clueless.
