Thank you so much for being part our community at AARP Games! We wanted to let you know we are retiring three of our games to help make room for some exciting new ones.

On Wednesday, December 17, Atari Breakout® , Missile Command®, and Pong® will no longer be available to play.

If you’d like to enjoy these games while they’re still available, click the links above to play before December 17. And if you want to try some other old-school favorites, check out the Atari & Retro Games to play games like Snake and Family Feud!

I remember the original Pong.  Got ours at a thrift store, when the “thrill” of the game wore off for someone, I guess.  

The first time I saw it here, I smiled and played for a little bit…bringing back memories.  

Then, after a bit, I remembered why people dropped them off at donation centers!  
Fun for a short bit.

What kind of game is this?

It was a video game from the early 1970's. A basic game, like ping pong, but not as exciting.

You control a vertical paddle and hit back and forth.  With each hit the speed intensifies.  Usually in the video game console version you'd play with another person, or you could play against the computer.  The limitations to the video game vertical "Paddle" was that it could only move up and down on your screen.  Boredom would soon creep in, and it lost its appeal.  But it was an exciting first for many of us kids who never saw anything like that before and the console displayed on your TV screen, which was a very cool thing back then.

So I'm guessing so it goes here when it was brought to this platform.

Thank you for answering my question. This reminds me of when I was a child and first saw someone playing Tetris on a handheld game console. Back then, you only needed to move the blocks left and right to clear the levels, and as a child, I found everything so new and interesting.
