FAQ: Gin Rummy

What is Gin Rummy?

Gin Rummy is a two-player card game where players form sets and runs to score points.

How do I win?

Reach 100 points by creating melds and minimizing deadwood. Bonuses are awarded for going gin and undercutting.

What if I need a rules refresher?

Click “rules” on the right side of the screen.

What’s deadwood?

Deadwood refers to cards that aren’t part of a meld. Lower deadwood means a better chance to win.

Can I play with friends?

Yes. You can play against computer opponents or invite friends to private tables. You can also play against human opponents you don’t know.

What is a meld?

A meld is a set of three or more cards of the same rank or a run of consecutive cards in the same suit.

What does it mean to go gin?

Going gin means you have no deadwood and can end the round for a bonus.

What is undercutting?

Undercutting occurs when your opponent knocks and you have less deadwood, earning you a bonus.

How is scoring calculated?

Points are awarded for melds, knocking, going gin, and undercutting. Deadwood is subtracted from your score.

Can I discard a card I just drew?

Yes, but only if you drew it from the discard pile.

Is Gin Rummy a timed game?

No, rounds are played until one player reaches the target score.

Gin Rummy sucks and isn't fun at all because it is setup to cheat for the BOTS all the time. There are too many coincidences that show the game is not fair. Advise everyone to avoid playing against a BOT since you will get frustrated and end up hating the game as I have.

Update, my video driver is good, still having same issues. Honestly, I do enjoy the game, but it's frustrating when everything freezes up, often no cards show. Also, until crash issues, it's peaceful playing against the bot - when I play against real people, they are often rude - telling me to "hurry up", "play faster", "zzzz", etc - all when I'm within my turn timeframe even while sometimes dealing with freeze issues. I guess this game isn't for me. Hope everyone else has a better experience. Happy New Year ~

Mine freezes up all of the time, too, and frequently doesn't load the cards and whatnot. Glad it's not just me. I haven't been able to find a help. Heck, I can't even find where to register my username, I am always guest. I tried playing other people, but it switched me back to bots because everything kept freezing up. Very disappointing.

Anyone telling you to hurry up is a (fill in the blank). In fact, I’d take even longer after that.  Sorry it’s been crashing on you.  Usually updating a video driver on a computer helps.  Unless the computer is old in itself.  Did you contact Arkadium, the company that runs these games?  At the bottom of the game page, I believe there’s a help link for them. Could be something on their end they can help with

(Edit — added the screen print ) at the bottom of the game page.

Hope they can figure it out for you. I’d be interested in hearing what they said if you do get a hold of them.

If you’re playing on a computer your video driver may need updating.
