Delta Dental PPO Protect” policy appears like a great policy to have.  I cancelled my Blue Shield PPO after 20 years and bought the above policy.  An AARP representative, Judith, spent a lot of time with me explaining the better benefits of Delta Dental over Blue Shield..and told me I could call her anytime.  The policy has a higher monthly premium of $83/mo but because of the apparent broader cover & I am willing to pay more. This special Aarp policy allows the dentist to charge a higher amount than Blue Shield and more than Delta Dental’s HMO non AARP policy for various procedures like crowns. Certainly dentists are more likely to want to take this insurance as it gives them .  At my request  my Dentist priced both plans for me.  It was significantly less for me to use the HMO policy.  This issue was not a topic of conversation with Judith.  I tried to call Judith back on the phone number she gave me.  Turns out its an AARP number.  I was told I could not be connected to the senior sales representative after I bought the policy.  So it’s kinda’ scamny.  Judith also told me this policy had to be primary to any other coverage.  My dentist didn’t agree thank goodness.  I’m hoping the other policy advantages are real e/o costing me more as well.
