๐Ÿ“บ Watch the PBS Documentary โ€˜Aging in Americaโ€™ (AARP Article)

FROM THE ARTICLE:

The New Documentary โ€˜Aging in Americaโ€™ Shows How Far Weโ€™ve Come.

Director Neil Steinberg tells AARP what society is doing for the 50-plus: โ€˜Ageism is a bit better, but homelessness is worseโ€™.

By Tim Appelo, AARP. Published April 30, 2025.

The documentary Aging in America: Survive or Thrive, narrated by Martin Sheen, 84 (on PBS starting in early May; check local listings), celebrates the encouraging progress society has made in dealing with aging as well as the daunting challenges still faced by a rapidly aging population. In 1975 there were 25 million Americans over 65; today itโ€™s more than doubled to 55 million, and in 10 years the 65-plus will outnumber those under 18 for the first time. Director Neil Steinberg tells AARP what we can learn from the expert testimony and personal stories featured in the film, how far weโ€™ve come in dealing with aging and what remains to be done.

Thank you AARP for publishing this article. It helps to bring the issue of Homeless Seniors up front. As more of us lose our children to crime, cancer and so on - no one to bury us.

I am fortunate to still have my only child/daughter and hope I die before she does.

I grew up in an environment that had an AWESOME set of grandparents who pulled together for family.

Now that they are both gone, everyone seems to NOT care about the old timers.

GRATEFUL my daughter does.  ๐Ÿ’›

I hope times change and the United States returns to CARING about seniors who I guess are considered orphans = NO one to take them in if needed or bury them.

My thoughts are with any Senior out there without a support system of family or friends.  ๐Ÿ’›

Take care,

Nicole  ๐Ÿ‘ต  (Friends & Family Forum)
