Knee Pain - Is it Arthritis?

I have seen three Doctors and they all said I have arthritis.  I have has a MRI, cortizone shot (which did not help), draining of the knee and x-rays.  They all say it is arthritis which I agree I have however, my left knee above and below the knee and sometimes down to the ankle is swollen.  Everyone I've spoken to that has had a knee replacement said that they were not in as much pain as me and that their knee and leg eas not that swollen.  The Dr's are telling me that in abour 8 - 10 yrs. I will need a knee replacement.  I think the swelling might be a secondary problem.  I am not a Doctor however does this make sense that I have to be in pain, limp and have a deformed leg for another 8 - 10 yrs.?Please let me know if anyone has similar symptoms.
Thanks and have a great day!

I have had a knee replacement and it's no fun, but I can now do just about anything on my right knee(where I had it done). But, now my left knee is swelling and hard to stand up straight, my bone specialist says he believe its my back and today I"m going for a MRI of my back and hip. I hope I don't have to have surgery.

They also told me it was arthritis and bone on bone so that is why I had my frist knee done

Look up an amazing treatment called PROLOZONE. It's basically Oxygen in Ozone format, with some nutrients, injected into the knee. Look up Dr. Frank Shallenberger ( he invented it, has a big institute in Carson City, Nevada). People get almost immediate results.

I use Vitamin C in high doses for my hands arthritis. Works.

My mom has arthritis.
Her story began last year when she was in enormous knee pain. She was advised by 3 doctors to do the knee replacement, but I wanted to find an alternative.

For God's sake, we are planning colonization on Mars  but medicine still has nothing to offer aside from cutting the knee off?

So, I decided to find a way to avoid her surgery. Mom's condition was qualified as degenerative arthritis. So I ran into the forum (unfortunately I lost the link) where people were in the same situation as my mom was. One of the members told about the corticosteroids and hyaluronic acid injections into the joint. In addition to the knee brace and physical therapy it significantly reduced his knee pain and improved his life. So, I asked him about the clinic where he was treated. He pointed out ARO or Advanced Regenerative Orthopedics.

Has anyone considered these injections as arthritis treatment?

Hi! I've heard about the positive results after this kind of treatment. And I was invited to the seminar which ARO clinic will be holding this month in Tampa. Did your mom do the injections so far?

I fell on both knees once at a elementary school cafeteria....I was alot heavier than I am now.  I did

not tear anything "luckily" but,  I did have to go to therapy.  I have lost weight and, my knees hurt after exercising, I do walk more but, I don't like shots.  The doctor told me I bruised my bones in the knees.  I must say I just feel lucky because I did NOT tear the miniscus and, do not need surgery.

I don't like surgeries or hospitals. I get massages sometimes and that helps.

I take a joint formula and I noticed a difference in one week.  There are actually studies that say that MSM and Glucosamine can help regenerate cartiledge.  Of course, these supplements work better early on but I also think they help more with weight-bearing joints, like the knees.

Name one.  All of the studies I read say glucosamine and/or chondroitin reduces pain but does not speed healing, e.g., see

I had supartz injections for several years and it held off the knee replacement surgery, but eventually I had to have it and it's the best thing I ever did.

All I can say is do not sell yourself short about getting 2nd and 3rd and 4th opinions. Go see someone that is highly recommended by a friend or associate who has had a knee repacement. I had 5 surgeries on one knee- 2 replacements and 2 infections included in this number. One of the things I have learned is that orthopedic doctors have not walked in your shoes and don't have a clue how it feels to have a bum knee. What do they care if you want 8-10 years? All I can say is :DO RESEARCH - both for the doctor and where he/she operates. All my infections came from sub-par hospitals that pass as having "good" reputations. It's all about the infection rate. Get Consumers Report's magazine on
Health. That is where I recently learned that Belgium has cleaner hospitals than most of the ones in the US and costs less than half of what we pay (recent NY TIMES article)  Good luck and remember: nobody will take care of you better than you.

Cheryl,
Several years ago I was having pain in my right ankle and my right leg was noticeably larger than my left. I went to the doctor and he observed that my left ankle and knee were also swollen but to a lesser degree than my right. He first suspected a blood clot but then noticed that he'd raised my blood pressure medicine the month before. He prescribed a diuretic and this took care of the swelling but I still had the pain in my ankle. Eventually it was determined that I had torn a ligament in that ankle. I was not aware of doing so but he explained that it was a small tear and would not have caused pain until the inflammation set in several hours later. It took a year for the ligament to heal and the pain to completely stop. You may well have more than one problem causing your leg pain. Good luck.
