Now that I’m in my 50s, life’s busier than ever — work, home, appointments, you name it.
Problem is, I keep forgetting the little things: picking up something on the way home, calling someone back, or doing that one thing my wife definitely told me about.
She says I never listen. I say I just need a better system.
What if I could just casually mention something to an AI — and it actually remembered it for me?
Then, right when I need it, I get a reminder through a phone call or a ping on my watch.
No nagging. No sticky notes. No awkward “Oops, I forgot.”
If a service like that existed… yeah, I might actually pay for it.
How about you?
Another handy computer tool that my wife and I use near-daily, one that is available now, not in the future, is our Google Calendars (and there are Apple and other alternatives). We share our Calendars. The calendars are available on any device that we have put our Google Accounts on (for me, that includes my two Windows laptops, an iPad, an iPhone, and my (beloved) Google Pixel android phone.
The calendars send us reminders of upcoming events, prevents us from scheduling conflicting events, and coordinates everything. These are really handy. So handy, that sometimes I have entered events that may not occur until some years in the future (like when our passports expire, things like that).
I use the calendar(s) also. Not just the ones on phone and computer but the one you hang on wall. My wife says I overdo it, but a smart man ("Confucius" I think) said that the strongest memory in the world is not as strong as the weakest lead in a pencil.
I have the phone and pc start sending me reminders 2 weeks out. I may overdo it but 2 of my pet peeves are people being late and people saying I forgot.
Papaw @papawofboo , hope you got a chance to use your grill yesterday!!! The only calendar I use is my VERY LARGE PRINT Calendar from Amazon (wall calendar). I cross off the dates EVERY MORNING so I know IF I can sleep in. Yes, retirement lazy mode. Like you I use Google Calendar for "reminders" like rent. Lol, hate "late fees" - NEVER paid any. Geez, what they charge at my Apt Complex can fill up my gas tank and more. My daughter on the other hand, electronic EVERYTHING. So I had asked her many years ago, what happens IF her cell goes dead or gets stolen. Lol, something about back up "online" was her response. Nope, NEVER liked the electronic way of living & have a MAJOR fit when my bank's "online" system is down. Yes, all is well when things work but I am NOT giving up my Wall Calendar. Glad to see someone else uses them. You & your lovely wife have a totally awesome weekend.

I'm somewhere between you and your daughter on this stuff. I use my phone and computer to do my business but I still keep a paper back up. I have to write one check each year, the city has senior centers and they only take checks for membership and other stuff.
I used the smoker on the 4th for ribs, beans and corn. I have to brag on myself because for the 1st time I finally made the beans that were close to what my grandmother use to make. If I said they were as good, she would send a lighting blot to my bottom.😃
Heat is bad already, can only imagine what July and Aug. is going to be like. Already had one person pass away because of heat. At least so far no idiot has left a child or pet in the car. Talk about stupid, the weather man and news people are already telling people what to do so they will remember that their child is in the back seat. So you will remember to get your purse or cell phone out of the back but you'll forget your child????? Why does the Lord let ignorant people breed?
Papaw @papawofboo , between being "too busy" and whatever drug of choice I feel is the culprit. I could NEVER forgive myself IF I left a baby/young child behind. And it is NOT just parents. Daycares & schools. What a horrific way to die. 😭
Sounds like a good system. Maybe that's even available now. Or alternatives on Apple/Android smart phones, built-in apps like Notes, etc. or other available apps.
I find what works well for me (73) and my wife are various Google Sheets (Google's version of Excel-like spreadsheets). These can be shared with other users (like between my wife and I) and accessed from any device where you can log into your Google account.
I use Google Sheets to share shopping lists, task to do lists, etc. In fact, the shopping list is just one long list of shopping items. As we buy them they get checked off. As we need more they get added to the end of the list. Similarly for task lists. These allow us to share the information of what needs to be obtained or executed. And who might do that. And where. Etc. So if I'm shopping at Costco my wife can keep adding to the shopping list and I will review it as I go. This is so much better than sending lists by text message, the data gets lost in the fog of other information.
