YES or NO at Checkout

When using Debt or Credit I am asked by software if the amount is correct. If a couple of items I feel safe in saying YES but most of the time I do not know but everyone seems to check yes. To me if I really do not know if it is correct (try buying a basket of food) I want to say NO but that would be a lie also. If I refuse it makes everyone angry and management comes and presses YES. What IS the legal business reason for the question if most everyone goes their car or home and then checks their receipt, after all they already said it was correct at checkout.

It’s just asking if you want to debit that amount from your account. Not really that it’s the right amount. If you find out later you were incorrectly charged, you can dispute it with the store. Same as if you paid cash or check.
