Sam's Club Senior Citizen Discount Availability

My wife and I recently attempted to get a membership at Sams's Club for the first time. We did some research and found that the company has a $20 annual rate for people over the age of 50.  Since we qualify, we attempted to get the preferrential rate.  Our neighborhood store told us that we needed to appy for it online.  When we did so, we were directed to id.me to verity our ages, which we did.  At that point, we received the following message from Sam's Club:  OFFER IS UNAVAILABLE.  THE OFFER YOU'VE SELECTDED IS IN POPULAR DEMAND.  WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF RFETRIEVING MORE UNIQUE PROMO CODES FOR:

I contacted customer service by telephone and was informed that this is a long-term problem for Sams' Club, and she wasn't sure when we would be able to get access to the offer.  She did offer us a $25 promotional rate which increases to $50 after one year.

I don't know for sure, but this seems like it could be a bait and switch - an  effort to get you interested in a seniors rate (which may not even exist) and then offering you a slightly higher rate which morphs into the standard rate after one year.  Offering something you can't deliver doesn't reflect well on Sam's Club.  I'd say buyer beware.

I tried for two days in a row.  Gave them all of the requested information, including my drivers license, and now it says I'm blocked!!  I called my local Sam's Club and was told the only way senior can receive the discount is through ID.ME.  Strange that it isn't working.  What are they doing?  Collecting you name, address, phone number, drivers license or passport, for what?  Certainly not the reason they are projecting because it doesn't work!!!!
