 When my bf/bbf (best friend/ became boyfriend) asked me on a whim if I wanted to move from California to Georgia. Something made me say yes even though I am a California/Colorado girl to the core and knew nothing about southern living or lifestyle. 20 years later he and I are married and have moved to several different states over the years, but that first road trip to get here was fun, exciting, wonderous and so much hope for the future. It was a loooong 4 days but I'd do it again because it led me to my wonderful life with him full of adventures ever since.

This is probably going to read selfish and terribly dated, but in 1974 (yes, 1974), we left KCMO in an old Ford van headed to Austin for Joe Cocker concert (1-Sep-1974)...

Midway through TX, napping at rest stop, suddenly attacked by GIANT mosquitoes!

Driving again... soon we'll be there and rock with Joe!

Then the entire festival turned into a terrible situation with persons collapsing from the heat... Joe actually sang lying down on stage...

Days to recuperate but now at 72, this was my favorite road trip; I so miss those days of non-programmed performances and life!

About 5 years ago, our children and grandchildren took a two week trip to Colorado. There were 16 of us in three cars.  We drove out from Rochester, NY and found many fun places to stop along the way - some planned and some not. We did so much together and had a great time. We agreed ahead of time that we didn't have to do everything together. On our last day in Colorado, some of us took a train ride up Pikes Peak. That was one of my favorite things!

The most memorable road trip my husband and I took was to nowhere.  We had gone out for a Sunday ride on the Harley-Davidson Cruiser, and the ride turned into a memorable two-day journey.  We ended up going through North Carolina into Virginia. We stopped and took in a small cavern and the Natural Bridge. It was so spontaneous, that's what makes it so memorable.  We weren't members of @aarp at the time, but thought I would share.

    Have you tried this…The driver asks you when approaching a decision to go left or right, or straight…the entire trip.  Every time an intersection approaches, a decision is to be made by the passenger.  You end up having a mystery ride and see new sites you may have never seen before!  

Just remember to have your phone maps app handy to find your way home!

My husband and I used to take our children on many road trips.  Our song, just after we had pulled out of the neighborhood, was 'On the Road Again'. 
Robert is gone now but when our children are vacationing, there are times they are call or text me to sing our song.  

I come think of two memorable trips both to South Carolina.  The first was about 1986 and the second 1989.  
During the first one, we enjoyed the scenery to and from.  As usual, we stopped along the way to entertain the children who ranged from 8 - 14.

While we were visiting family, my husband's cousins were lamenting that they were the end of the line.  

Fast forward three years and Robert and I returned with two sons.  Yes that's right we had twin boys between the two trips.  The line was extended.  

We weren't old enough to use rewards at the time but when we relocated, we were thrilled to save money because of our rewards.  

Ive encouraged our oldest two children to join AARP, and fortunately for them, they listened. Thank you for the memories.
