@nyadrn - I've always loved The Animals version, too, but that's a really nice, and very soulful rendition by Nina Simonel! BTW, the Luther video makes a lot of sense after you told us about him being something of a loose canon on the tv show!

Oh no! "early Purple" was never an orchid! I'm a die-hard DP fan, of course!!
But there was a significant change from the progressive-psychedelic rock of Mark 1 "early Purple" to the hard rock metal of Mark 2. A lot of fans didn't catch on to DP until they hit Mark 2 in 1970. You can hear the difference in these two classic rock ballads - -
