REMEMBERANCE

I thought today about the day when I was only twelve,

when on a wintery Sunday morn

My sled and I did stray.

The snow beneath the sled's sharp blades

scrunched and slid with ease,

Then I, upon it's flattened boards

Stretched out and bent my knees.

The ride began so very fast

I thought I might get sick,

And then it slowed and I could see

The end was soon to be.

What fun it was to fly on snow,

To pretend  you had two wings...

And now, although that's long ago

I still can feel the glow.

So, when the snow begins to fall,

I know those days are gone...

But still within my deepest me,

The ride has just begun.

POEM " Random Thoughts"

         RANDOM THOUGHTS

             October 2018

The wash was hung on washlines

  And children played on swings...

And winter was a reason to anticipate

       His coming once again

Although, it mattered not the season for

       He was always there.

On Sundays when the church bells rang

We knew what we must do

And when we bent our heads in prayer

We knew that he was there.

Then when around our table

Our hands would clasp in prayer..

We'd thank the Lord in gratitude

That Mom and Dad were there.

How long ago these memories

  Were laid upon a shelf

As time and new traditions

  Replaced the former self...

The bells still ring on Sunday

But prayers are hard to find

  As we become too busy

To be our Savior's elf.

Could we go back to "olden" days?

No, it wouldn't be the same...

For tech and new inventions

  Have settled in our brains.

So...did we really gain much or just how much was lost?

Would life be a little more meaningful

If we remembered...to listen to the Boss.
