KATIE

6/23/2011

Long ago I held you close,

And hated to let you go.
Then, as you grew I held your hand…

And hoped that you would know.

As my shoes became your own I smiled as you played.

M jewels would drape your little neck

Dangling as you parade.

The glasses that my mother wore,

Upon your nose I’d find

A little big, but oh, so sweet,

My Mom would be sure glad.

The lock of hair, so long and brown, was as much fun for you, as me.

I was so pleased to share it all

And we did it all with glee.

You played “dress up” and we did dance

And my pride it had no bounds,

And when you came to Grandma’s house

My world loved you around.

The Xmas cookies you learned to make, the spritz—which filled the cans,

Were special treats, as were the eggs,

Dipped with your careful hands.

What fun we had

What times we shared

Along with some sad tears,

And crackers and jam…and malted milks,

Remind me of our years.

It is so silly…this Grandma says,

To cry on your going away,

But I’m so blessed…will always have,

Each memory that we made.
