library books all the way!  i read way too much too to buy.  it would be a waste of money and paper. plus libraries do such a good job of marketing to individuals and are such a great community center.  yay libraries!

years ago, when i travelled more i so wanted an electronic book reader, but by the time they had improved enough to be useable, i just didn't care any more.  maybe later.

I read books checked out from my local library, actual printed-on-paper books.  I also have an audio book going in my car or in my kitchen CD player.  I don't own a Kindle or other such device.

I love reading a physically present book. It's like eating a good meal. A book has a unique scent

to it, you can dig into it, as you do a eight course (chapter) and take your time digesting it and savoring the the effect as it warms your insides (brain). I can spent hours exploring a brick and

mortar bookstore or library. I do have a NOOK for when I travel, for the convience.

Oh never mind. It's not a gear icon but the more. So if you have it set for 15 minutes and you are watching a video will that apply to that too?

that's only available in the audio books on my fire. This doesn't show up anywhere else. I was hoping it would work when I was reading a book and using "text to speech"

What's a non-active time out?

Hi, Donna!

On my Fire, that means the screen turns off when I don't touch it (e.g., to turn a page) after my set time. It works great for me as I read to fall asleep, so whether browsing the web or reading a book, the screen turns off when my wake-brain does (saving battery and me having to turn off a bedroom light).

To set this (on Fire)

  • Swipe down from the top and tap the gear icon.
  • Tap Display Sleep
  • Tap one of the options (from 15 seconds to 30 minutes)

Done!

This may be slightly different on a Kindle; please check Amazon Kindle help if so.

The library.   I have always loved the library and most of the time I find all the books I'm looking for.
