COINCIDENCE JUNCTION

Coincidence Junction

This afternoon, I finished reading Diagnosis, a novel by Alan Lightman that depicts in excruciating detail a baffling disease that slowly incapacitates the stupefied main character until he becomes a catatonic quadriplegic. That evening, my wife haphazardly chose to watch a medical documentary series, The Diagnosis, a Netflix original. When I tuned in, I was taken aback: the TV show had the same title as the novel. But even more amazingly, the afflicted person had a progressively crippling disease that for years had stumped a host of physicians, a conundrum initially identical to the one in the novel: a spine-tingling coincidence.
