I just published Stories for Birders and Other Observers available on Amazon and B&N. Was writing short stories for 25 years but finally decided to publish a book at WingSpan press. Publishing took some effort but spent many hours in workshops writing stories so sense of accomplishment at 73 to get it done.

The first three readers who contact me at merletemple@bellsouth.net will receive a free, signed copy of my novel, A Ghostly Shade of Pale. I just ask that you do a review here in Book Talk. merletemple.com

Reviews for A Ghostly Shade of Pale

Captures the South in the 1970s...evocative of the great Southern writers...a taste and feeling for where you are... a lot of layers in a fascinating book."—Allison Hope Weiner, Media Mayhem, Beverly Hills.

“..a great storyteller, writing to all of your senses…a story so detailed and complex, yet beautifully sinister…reader is immersed in the feeling of absolute reality.”—Jim Clemente, Criminal Minds, Hollywood.

"…enough to send a shiver up my spine, but I fell for his language as a fan of Southern fiction… tone of the novel is part gothic, part mystery, part thriller and all stratagem…a very new twist on a time period he has the background and authority to talk about. It opens with a murder and doesn’t let go."—Gila Green, Israel, Author—King of the Class

“…the press is just beginning to jump on board to something that’s about to get as hot as a drug deal gone bad with automatic weapons and kilos of cocaine flying around. The book may be fiction but its writer is not. He’s lived the life and survived it – with his faith intact.”—The Clarion-Ledger, Jackson, Mississippi.

“…takes the reader into a 1960s world of violence and mystery, and creates characters that are chillingly sinister, especially the evil Fredrick, who may haunt your nightmares for a very long time…blends action with a literary style that only grows in the Deep South. Romance and brutality merge in this debut novel by a promising author. Not for the faint of heart.”—Adele Elliott, Real Media Radio.

“Temple’s first-hand knowledge of gun battles, drug deals gone bad, corrupt politicians, and law enforcement officials, makes the scenes and pages come to life.”—The Oxford Eagle.

“Suspense-driven…a compelling read from cover to cover…memories have their way with him so those raw emotions would surface and be laid bare on page after page of remembrances in order for his readers to feel what he felt…”—Southern  Writer’s Magazine.

“In search of a fascinating gift for your reading enthusiast? Look no further than an offering by a Mississippi native who lays battered emotions bare for all to see…kudos also to Merle Temple for drawing readers into an emotional story without using profanity or sex as a crutch.”—Town and Gown Magazine

“Through his engaging character and alter-ego, Michael Parker…Mr. Temple has woven together the elements of a powerful Mystery-Suspense that left this reader's heart pounding! —KB Schaller, Author, Gray Rainbow Journey.

“Temple has the ability to bring his readers to a very personal place, allowing them to resonate with him as an author and with characters in his novel…what an amazing story (he) has shared with his readers.”—The Daily Mississippian (Ole Miss).

“Gripping…”—Mississippi Magazine.

“The sheer beauty of the words…Magic!”—Arlene Uslander, Author, Mystery of Fate.

“He captures the times as only an eyewitness could. The parallels of truth and fiction are intriguing.”—Dr. Chester Quarles, Author, Terrorism, Avoidance and Survival.

“…exhibits a respect for the intelligence and imagination of his reader which is rare among today's authors. When you finish, you will know that this talented writer has escorted you through the maze of good and evil so that you are the richer for it.”—Thomas Coleman, Mississippi Appeals Court Judge (Retired).

“Terrific! Recommend it highly!”—Paul Rogers, WBZM, Orlando

“...presents a respect not only for the characters in the book, but even for the reader, that I have not experienced before in this type of literature…highly recommend…look forward to the second part of the trilogy.”—Jan Ballard, Yarn Spinners Book Club, Ackerman, MS.

"(In) 8th and 9th grade English, we read a Ghostly Shade of Pale in class. My students did not want to stop reading each day.You feel like you know the characters personally and I believe that is an attribute that every novel should have…I knew it would hold my students attention! BRAVO! Job well done!!! I can hardly wait to read your next book."--Amy Parker Robinson, Winston Academy, Louisville, MS.

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays everyone.

In response to a book to read I wish to recommend  'The Belvedere Legacy' written by Marjorie Estes.

It can be found at:  www.belvederelegacy.com.

Copy of a review written by someone:

I just finished reading your book.... I loved it!!!!! You did a very good job. I found myself in England and felt like I was apart of the family. I was happy when someone got married, and I felt sad when someone died. It really kept me "involved".

Great job. I look forward to .....

There were several other reviews....

Hope you enjoy this book.   found on:  www.amazon.com    also.

Thank you!!

Marjorie Estes

Forgive this blatant promotion, but at the age of 66 I find myself in a bit of a hurry.

My first published novel, Leverage, is just out from Five Star Publishing. It’s a character-driven, action-packed thriller, peppered with the kind of adult language, realistic violence, and black humor that makes Mob stories so exciting—and so much fun.

A word of caution though, it’s rated “mature” for language and violence – but I guess “mature” is probably a good description of AARP readers.

I hope you will take a look. It’s available in hardcover and ebook at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

In Response to Any Authors In the House:

Are there any authors (either self published or traditional)  in this group.  My third self published book "The Other Side of Threw" (available on-line) has recently been released.  Wanted to know about other author's experiences with publishing, markieting, etc.  Also, who is your favorite author and why?

This board always confuses me. I'm trying to respond to Lynne107's marketing. You are absolutely correct. Marketing is very difficult when on a budget..You need $$$ to keep up the pace once you start. The litrary market changes by the month -- even day in some cases. I read Publishers Weekly every chance I get and get the pro and con from both sides. Hang in there, Lynne. MinnieE

Please see my post. Publishing took time but was easy compared to marketing!

My name is Lynne Gassel and I just published FIFTH CHILD (The Turbulent Path That Led to Parenting My Child's Child) on AMAZON.COM. It's in soft cover and Kindle/E-book. Please go to Amazon and read an excerpt. I've been getting rave reviews stating "It's a book readers can't put down!" This is so exciting since I'm a first-time author. Working with CreateSpace on Amazon to publish was very user friendly and I only paid for my ISBN number. Also, they call you back at your convenience -in a minute , if you wish- and you can easily track sales through them. I was very pleased with my experience and highly recommend them. You can also get additional information on me and my book on my blog: www.fifthchildblog.blogspot.com. Let me know what you think!

I don't know how to write fiction, and I haven't written a memoir specifically but I did share a few stories of experiences I had in my book and I just shared them as if I were carrying on a conversation with someone telling them about my life and interjecting thoughts.  Google memoir formats.  I'm sure you'll find a lot.

In Response to Re: Any Authors In the House:

I have a new wordpress blog at https://msminerva.wordpress.com

I have self-published 3 books (2 are fiction) and am now working on a memoir covering my journey to write. I'm having problems with the format used in memoir. It's different from writing fiction. If anyone has suggestions, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thank you.
