Businessman Turned Prison Tutor

In 2007, former business consultant Jim Farrin gathered 20 students from his alma mater, Princeton University, to tutor prison inmates studying for the GED. His program has flourished, with students from 30 colleges now tutoring 1,500 individuals. AARP awarded him a Purpose Prize in 2017, and he received $50,000 for his tutoring program. 2018 winners will receive $60,000.
