I would have hated that too, but it sounds like you were on the wrong cruise line.  Go on one with no cheesy art auctions or “gold by the inch” sales.  You will completely change your mind.

I have been on numerous cruises and various lines from The Home lines to Norwegian. I have found that celebrity and Princess and 2 of the best. The food and service is great, the entertainment from shows to casino to lounges could not be beat. I like the idea of unpacking one time, being able to visit various ports and cities without packing again, being able to do as much or as little as you prefer and of course getting waited on to boot.

I just took my first Mediteranian cruise and it was wonderful. My only complaint  was the time in port. I would have preferred maybe some overnight stays in order to do some more sight seeing, but because I had done extensive touing in some of the places before, I was just fine with it. I love cruising. It is a great way to relax or not, meet people or not and have everything you can want at your fingertips. Granted some lines are more trditional than others. It is just a personel choice of what level of vacation you are looking for, but I HIGHLY recommend taking a cruise.

Went on one cruise, returning from Spain to Miami.

HATED IT!  Bored to tears! They always say there are a ton of things to do, absolutely none of which I had any interest in.

The one thing I liked was the entertainment, which was excellent.

Phony art shows, expensive drinking and gambling, not my cup of tea at all.

Maybe an educational cruise where you learn something would be better, but at that point, why do you need the extra expense of the cruise?

Not to mention the press of hundreds of strange bodies and little peace to actually enjoy.

Crystal  sounds really nice because Carnival and Royal Carribean both charge extra for the drinks.

I love everything about cruising! I did nine cruises with my late husband who originally was dead set against cruising fearing that he would be claustrophobic! However, after a first short cruise, he started planning cruises which exponentially grew longer in terms of days as we cruised during the following years. I’ve also been on three cruises by myself. I always book a balcony cruise which becomes a bit expensive if I’m traveling by myself because all cruise lines bookings are based on double occupancy.  There’s nothing like sitting on your balcony with a glass of wine and an hors d’oeuvre, or just napping during the day..

I have sailed on Crystal, Splendor of the seas, Oceana, Holland America, Celebrity, Paul Gauguin,  Norwegian.

I’ve like them all, but found out that Celebrity provides more value for the dollar.

That’s what my best friend said who won’t even go into her own pool. Even won’t walk around it. However, she went on her first cruise and was terrified about the thought, but when she returned she said to me “OMG, I can’t believe what I’ve missed. I felt so safe and I’m looking forward to more cruises however I still won’t go into my own pool“

I just had to put my two cents worth in this conversation.  I hate any water deeper than my bathtub so a cruise is out of the question for me.  I can't swim and water terrifies me.  I hope all of you who do go on cruises have the time of your life!

I love cruising. I have been on 7 and have my 8th one planned for next march. I have been on Royal Caribean and Carnival. I can not say I like one any better than the other. I like the idea that once it is paid for everything you need in included. You can keep as active as you want or you can just relax as much as you want. If you purchase anything extra on the ship such as pictures or something in one of the shops on board or go to a specialty resturant than this would cost you extra. You can keep track of what you spend and what you will owe at the end of the trip on your tv in your stateroom. We always get a interior room because it is cheaper and if you are like us we are only in the room to change clothes and sleep so for us it was not worth the extra for a balcony or window. They clean your room and make your bed every day. Of all the vacations we have been on Cruising is our favorite.

I went on one cruise. It was my last. To me, it was like Vegas on water. I don’t drink, and the food that I had heard was so good was mediocre at best. The worst part, however, was disembarking. Took forever to get off the ship and go through customs. Not my cup of tea.
