I haven't seen them in the thread but my favorites were Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister. They were both comedies from the 1980s about Government and Politics in Britain. My wife and I happened to be living in Britain when the former was first aired so we had some first hand knowledge of the political climate and why these were hilarious. I'm a bit of a political junkie anyway. I do think they transfer well to the US audience because so many of the episode topics translate to what happens in our Government too. Very good acting

I have enjoyed the pleasent recollections triggered by the responses. Gavin and Stacey has been an offbeat delightful comedy. I came to love all the characters. It is one that I could watch again and find more material that went below the radar. Keeping Up Appearances has also been one that I watched several times when it came on the local PBS station. I started to notice more of the physical comedy, the body manerisms, and facial expressions from Hyacinth.

Mr. Bean is favorite of mine also. Coupling is also a favorite. Seen clips of Mrs. Browns Boys on You Tube and would be watching that if it ever aired in the US.

Maybe I don't fit the qualifications to reply (haven't been to UK in 20yrs), but I am surprised to not see my favorite listed by anyone else above - Shameless. It is dark comedy, but comedy none the less. Also, it has the unique honor of being the best US remake of a UK show.
I don't watch most of the UK comedies - preferring the UK dramas more. My favorites being:
Doctor Who (Though it straddles the comedy/drama divide)
Sherlock
Most of the other mysteries
and it goes without saying - all of the Masterpiece programing.
